Welcome to the Atlanta Chapter's Website. Harley-Davidson of Atlanta established the Atlanta Chapter on September 16, 1985. We are the oldest H.O.G. Chapter in Georgia. All of the officers hope you will take a look around and enjoy your stop here. Be sure to check out the Calendar. We try to keep a good variety of rides and events to fit into everyone's schedules. If you are a local or just passing through town and have any questions feel free to contact any of the Officers. If you are interested in joining the chapter, we have membership applications available here on the site. We are here to "Ride and Have Fun" and hope you will come out and join us soon. Director's Article
While you read this the GA Rally is fast approaching and, I hope everyone will be there. Also when you read this the 4th Annual, Award Winning "Saddle & Paddle" will be complete. Even though I have had a lot on my plate and feel like I may have neglected my duties as your Director, I still feel like it has been a heck of a year. I've made some new friends that I know I will ride with, even outside chapter events. Basically that's what H.O.G. is all about. I've also been able to make a lot of new friends outside our chapter that are a part of our extended H.O.G. family. Make an effort at the rally to meet some of these folks.
I also wanted to take time in this article to thank, Donna Schelhaas for the outstanding job she and others did on the multiple-chapter picnic. I think that was the most fun I have had at our picnic yet. I think it will be that much better next year.
I look forward to riding with everyone in the cooler weather ahead. So let’s get out there and ride.
RAFFLE, RAFFLE, RAFFLE
In case you haven’t noticed the 2012 Harley-Davidson’s are on the showroom floor, however there’s something a little different there as well. It’s a beautiful bright red vehicle with four wheels touching the floor not two. Okay, I won’t keep you in suspense, as the grass cutting season is starting to wind down and you’re tired of either doing it with a push mower or your rider is getting harder to start; GUESS WHAT?! The Atlanta H.O.G. Chapter is raffling off a Toro Bronco, 42”, 17.5 horsepower lawn tractor. It’s a beauty. We will be raffling it off on November 12 at the dealership (you don’t have to be present too win). There will only be 300 tickets sold so there’s a one in 300 chances per ticket sold. They are on sale at the dealership for $10 each. The proceeds will go to the chapter to offset the cost of our Holiday Social. So please see either Rene’ at the front desk or Rene’ Durham at her desk to purchase a ticket. Furthermore, please take a pack of 10 tickets and sell them to your family and co-workers to help the chapter out.
Thanks for all you do,
Bobby Conway
Director, Atlanta Chapter
Fall Ride Destinations
We’ve had some great rides this summer but I am tired of hot weather. I remember back in February sitting in front of a warm fire thinking of riding once again in a T-shirt under a warm summer sky. Enough. Now I’m sitting in air-conditioning thinking of those beautiful fall days that come to Atlanta when a leather jacket is comfortable riding attire. North Georgia, Western Carolina and the East Tennessee mountains provide some of the best riding anywhere during the fall months.
With prime riding season in front of us, does a particular ride destination come to mind? Do you have an idea for a ride? Your Chapter officers and Road Captains want to provide a variety of quality rides and destinations and we want your suggestions and ideas. Perhaps you would like to lead a ride….or …just suggest an idea for a ride. If you have some ideas please let us hear from you. The Head Road Captain for the Atlanta Chapter is Diana Bodden. Diana coordinates our rides with our road captains and she is always looking for new ride destinations. Diana can be reached at 404-992-3548 or harleybaby94@aol.com or talk with any of your chapter officers.
September, 17 is the HDA Bikes, Blues & BBQ. The Atlanta Chapter will be hosting the HDA All Harley Ride-In Bike Show as a part of the event.
Registration: 10:00 A.M. to 12 Noon
Cost $10 per bike
One winner: People’s Choice Award
The winner to be announced at 2:00 P.M.
The winner of Bike Show to received $100
For this event the chapter will sell soft drinks from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Contact Chuck Fuller to volunteer to work the event.
Thanks,
Mark Redmond
Assistant Director, Atlanta Chapter
Attendance Jackpot
Congratulations to Larry Pilarski whose name was drawn for the August Attendance Jackpot. Unfortunately, Larry was not at the meeting to claim the $110. We will add $10 to the Jackpot for the next chapter meeting, $120. Remember you must be at the meeting and a member in "Good Standing," a current member of national H.O.G. and Atlanta Chapter. If the member whose name is drawn is not at the meeting, we will add $10 and try again next meeting. Please have your National H.O.G. card with you at the meeting. Hope to see everyone there.
Please ride safe and responsible,

It’s been a busy, hot and fun summer. We had so much fun at the Chapter Picnic in July, and we had great responses from several members from all three chapters. It was fun to be a part of the planning for this event. All three chapters joined forces and became one big team. Everyone did a wonderful job pulling it together, I applause you all.
Even though we’ve hit the hotter-humid months, our Movie Nights have been very successful and enjoyable. Please join us on the fourth Friday of each month through October (last movie night), join us for laughs and entertainment. Meet at 6:00 P.M., bring your dinner then watch the movie at 7:00 P.M. For more comfort, bring your lawn chairs, otherwise the picnic tables are available. Hope to see you there!
Everyone get ready for the next BIG Chapter Event – The Christmas Party! Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 10 for an evening of fun; we hope you will join us. We are already starting the planning and are looking for chapter members who would like to be a part of the Christmas Committee. Please email me at cesdls@bellsouth.net or call/text me at 404-216-1522. I look forward to working with those who would like to be a part of the committee in creating a great evening of fun and celebration!
Once again I would like to extend a BIG ‘Thank You’ to all members that volunteer when needed for events. You can’t imagine how much we appreciate your help.
Never try to race an old geezer. He may have one more gear than you!

My HOGWASH Family
Man, I know we have many rides and lots of fun things to go to: We go to the dealership to have our bike's service, we go to Bobby and Mark for information about our chapter, we continually have to go to someone for something. Well go to John 3:16. It will be the best ride of your life.
May God bless you,
Wendell King

A “Taste of” Ride
Join me at the HDA Pavilion on Saturday, September 3 at 5:00 P.M. At 5:30 P.M., we will leave there on a nice ride over to Smyrna, through the historic-covered bridge to have a wonderful dinner at “Howard’s.” Much like is done on “The Food Network.” I am beginning a “Taste of” tour to local long time restaurants. So join me on our first excursion on this long-time tour.
Michelle Conway, Road Captain
Sunday Sundae Social – Formerly “Tasty Tuesday”
What a great excuse to have some ICE CREAM! Tasty Tuesday seemed to interfere with supper time so it seemed to be a good fit on a Sunday afternoon short ride to get some ice-cream. So on every 4th Sunday we will have a social to have some ice cream. So come out to the pavilion at 4:15 P.M. on Sunday, September 25 for a short ride for some ice cream.

Fall Leaf Run – October 14 - 16
When the Great South hoi polloi show up around 8:00 a.m., it’s northbound to the Appalachian Mountains, embarking on a scenic ride of your life. This experience includes actually smelling and feeling the mountain air, free of charge!
Imagine the possibilities as we ply our way to Black Mountain on day one, enjoying the fall colors in north GA and NC over a 3-day ride through some of the most beautiful mountains in the country. Mountains and valleys, forests and glades, wild streams and lakes and peaceful ponds. Perhaps you’ll spot a hawk or an eagle or deer or ‘Peppi Le Pew’ or a bear (no Grizzlies this trip)! Have you ever traveled the lesser known Wayah Road? Lunch we’ll do at the River’s Edge in the Nantahala Gorge.
We’ll explore the wonders of the Blue Ridge Parkway on day two. It’s the land of the Linn Cove Viaduct, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, the old parkway and the new. Lunch will probably be in Blowing Rock.
The ‘old parkway’ has an interesting history of the 20-some year stand-off between Grandfather Mountain’s determined family and the U. S. Park Service – and then we’ll dip into the Linville Gorge (North Carolina’s Grand Canyon).
The third day finds us snaking our path thru Chimney Rock and Lake Lure before traversing the Foothills Parkway with lunch at Aunt Sue's Country Corner and homeward bound.
This is a 4-pig ride due to saddle time, distance, twisties, and weather. (There’s always weather in them thar mountains). No 14-hour day this year, so we’ll get you home at a civilized time for those that have “J-O-B-S”…yuk.
Lodging Info:
Super 8 Motel
101 Flat Creek Rd.
Black Mountain, NC 28711
828-669-8076
If you wish to stay indoors for the two over nights, 15 rooms at the Super 8 Motel are blocked (remember they’re the only act in town that will put up with us noisy riffraff). They are all non-smoking with two double beds. We will probably be on the rear second floor again like last year. The rate is $63.71 plus tax per night.
When calling to make your reservation, tell them the blocked rooms are in the name of HOG Chapter. Then register the room in your name and on your credit card.
Call before Friday, September 28 to reserve – after that, all rooms blocked under HOG Chapter will be released. When the 15 rooms are gone there may or may not be more rooms available.
Consider that those windshield tourists will be competing to see the fall leaf color, too! Comparable room’s rates in other nearby motels run as much as $179/night and more!
Please also drop me a note when you have made your reservation for my preplanning purposes. Much appreciated.

Florida State Rally Ride -- October 19-23, 2011
As we did last year with Tennessee's state rally, I have picked Florida's State Rally to support this year. They have one of the hotels listed on their website with a $69 a night rate. I actually stopped by there a couple weeks ago to check it out and it's very nice. The rally dates are Wednesday, October 19, through Saturday, October 22. The hotel is: Summer Place Inn 1-888-232-2499. Again, if you would just let me know when you make your reservations. This hotel is approximately 3 miles from the main host, but still very nice. I plan on an early start down on Wednesday and returning on Sunday.
