Historian, Atlanta Chapter
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@bellsouth.net. Thanks!!

ROAD TRIP
Fall Leaf Ride - October 10-12
When the gang from Great South Chapter arrives, we will leave from the pavilion at 8:00 A.M.
and head north to the Appalachian Mountains. After some city streets and then a little interstate
we will embark on a scenic ride of your life.
Mountains and valleys, forests and glades, wild streams and lakes and peaceful ponds.
Perhaps you'll spot a hawk or eagle or bear or deer – imagine the possibilities as we ply our way to Asheville on day one and explore the wonders of the Blue Ridge Parkway on day two. Linville Viaduct, Grandfather Mountain, Mt. Mitchell, the old parkway and the new.
The third day finds us snaking our path through Chimney Rock and Lake Lure before finally
traversing SC on the Foothills Parkway and homeward bound.
I have reserved eight rooms at the Super 8 Motel in Black Mountain, NC.
101 Flat Creek Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711
They are all standard nonsmoking with two double beds.
At $64.95/night, it is $143.86/night/room for two nights.
Rooms allow up to five occupants each.
To reserve a room, first call me for the details. I will assign you a confirmation number for a
specific room, and then you call the Super 8 at 828-669-8076 and tell them the date and that
confirmation number. (The rooms are presently in my name) Request the room to be placed in
YOUR name and on YOUR credit card. Call me back to confirm you made the reservation, so I
can cross it off my list. If it looks like we may run out of rooms I might be able to get more at the discounted rate if it's not too late.
Deadline for reserving a room is September 8, 2008 at which time I will cancel all remaining
rooms not transferred. This procedure is necessary to prevent the possibility of a humongous bill
on my credit card and a death in the family (mine)!
After that date it may be impossible to find a room anywhere within 50 miles of Asheville, due to the windshield tourists (like us) flocking into the area for the autumn leaf colors.

Columbus Day Ride - October 13
Come out and join me for a ride of discovery. We are bound to discover something, especially
because as of the time of this article I have no idea where I am going. This will be on Monday,
October 13 "Columbus Day." We will be riding somewhere for lunch. Meet at 9:30 A.M. and
leave at 10:00 A.M.. I really don't anticipate this being more than at two pig ride. If you have
Columbus Day off come out and have lunch with us. I would also like to put special emphasis to
employees of the dealership, I know this is your only day off and we would love to have you
come out and ride with the chapter.

Lunch Ride - October 14
Meet me at the HDA pavilion at 10:00 A.M. on October 14, 2008 (Tuesday). We will leave at
10:30 A.M. for a short ride to the Civic center and Sports Complex in Villa Rica (the ball fields
south of Villa Rica on Highway 27/61). The ride will consist of approximately 40 miles to Villa
Rica and 35 miles back. Good food and sandwiches.

Blind & Low Vision Charity Ride - October 18
If you missed the August meeting then you missed an awe-inspiring presentation about this ride.
This charity will be raising money to assist folks who are blind or their vision is such that they
need assistance to function. It helps provide these folks with guide dogs and in setting up their
homes, so they can live independently. On October 18 we will meet at 9:30 A.M. and leave at
10:00 A.M. We will take a short ride over to South Cobb Drive. This will be a charity ride so
once there it will cost $20 for a rider and $10 for a passenger. It is a poker run and they will have a 50/50 drawing. This will be a 2-pig ride and should be a lot of fun.

Apple Festival Ride - October 18
Join us for our Annual Run to the Apple Festival. Some new roads there and new final location,
with access to the festival or the apple houses. Some great N. GA scenery and great food. Come
and join us on this great annual event. We plan to miss the traffic this year and end up at a
location to eat. Come out and have some fun!

Barber’s Motorsports Museum and Vintage Motorcycle Fest! -October 19
Want to see some great vintage bikes? If so, come out for a ride on Sunday, October 19 to the
Barber Motorsports park outside Birmingham, AL. Along the way we will stop for an early lunch
in Oxford, Alabama. This will be an easy 120 mile ride down Route 78 all the way to Leeds, AL.
When we arrive at the motor park, everyone will have the option of attending the Vintage
Motorcycle Fest ($25 per person) or the museum ($15 per person). Either way you decide, you
can't go wrong. The Motorsports Museum boasts more than 1,100 motorcycles from all different
eras on display, and the vintage fest has a swap meet, motorcycle racing, vendors and other
displays , etc. For more information about both events, visit www.barbermotorsports.com
Hope to See You There,

Suches Ride - October 25
On Saturday, October 25 we will meet at 8:30 A.M. at HDA and leave at 9:00 A.M. headed to
"Two Wheels Only" in Suches, GA for some lunch. If you haven't been, it's a nice ride through
the North Georgia mountains on a good curvy road. It's like the Dragon's Tail of Georgia. We
will go up through Cartersville and over to Blue Ridge and then down GA 60 into Suches. "Two
Wheels Only" usually serves a good lunch and also they will be having a 50cc fun run. That's
always a lot of fun watching adults riding these little 50cc bikes. I'm sure the leaves will be
turning and it will be a beautiful ride.

Chiaha Arts Festival - October 26
The Chiaha Arts Festival is a small, cozy version of the Ellijay Apple festival, nestled in the city of Rome. The live music on the stage is great for your ears while sippin' some hot apple cider on a crisp autumn day. There are plenty of food vendors available for lunchtime, along with
jewelers, artists and various crafts exhibitors.
We will meet at the H-D of Atlanta pavilion for a leisurely trip up Route 60 to Cartersville and across Route 293 into Rome, Georgia. If you are new to the chapter, or a veteran, this 2-pig ride is a nice easy journey everyone can enjoy.
Hope to See You There,
Erik Grandowski, Road Captain
Signal Mountain Overnighter - November 1 & 2
Hotel Information:
Best Western Smokehouse Lodge
Monteagle, TN
Ph.: 931-924-2091 x626 - ask for Jessica (Jess) Worley
HDA-HOG - Steve Magel
We will travel quickly up I-75 to Lafayette, GA. This was suggested by last year's riders; so we can get to the good stuff early! (Or so we can eat lunch by NOON) Then take the back roads past
Lookout Mountain and the Battlefield, along Suck Creek (that's its real name) and stop for lunch
- remember last year's catered event!
After lunch, up the switchbacks onto Signal Mountain to Edwards Point for a great view. Along
the Brow Road for a view of downtown Chattanooga, down the twisties to Fall Creek, out toward
the Lake and then all back roads up the mountain into Monteagle, TN.
We will spend the night on top of Monteagle. We will have a bonfire, homemade popcorn and
celebrate a great day's ride, along with my birthday!
If we are hungry, I have a few spots selected for dinner.
The next morning, to the PEACE Memorial at Sewanee University, followed by breakfast at the
University. It's almost as good as home!
For those needing to head home fast, take, I-24E to I-75S. For the remainder, about 75% of us
last year, we will take the scenic route through Sewanee, Valley Head, Stevenson, Mentone,
Menlo, Summerville, Coosa, Cedartown and Dallas for another great day!
Ride to Love, Love to Ride!

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Hanger 19 Recap
Well, you missed another great ride. Just because it was through the week doesn't mean the ride
is any less exciting. Besides, during the week there are fewer crowds to deal with. We left the
dealership with nine Bikes and headed south toward Newnan. It was a beautiful day and the
temperature was perfect. We picked up two more bikes at our stop at Great South and after a
short break headed west to Hanger 19 in Griffin. I don't know why we don't ride more on that
side of town the roads and scenery is great. We arrived at Hanger 19 just after 1pm, and they had
our table setup and ready to go. The restaurant has an air plane theme and all the servers are
dressed as First Officer and to top it off the food was some of the best I have had out in a while. If you're ever over in Griffin, look for the place up, I promise you will not be disappointed.
