Breathtaking views at 5235 ft. overlooking God's country; that's where I have been lately.
Late night round robin conversation and laughter sharing tales of past and present adventures
with some of my H.O.G. family was so fun! I was getting to know members of our group as well
as those potential members who joined us for an awesome overnight river rafting trip. It was real
socializing in comparison to just monthly meetings and a few rides here and there. If you have
never been on an overnight trip with the group, you are really missing out on a lot!
I hope to see everyone down in Tybee for the rally. It is going to be a blast!

Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@bellsouth.net. Thanks!!

Pig Ride Legend
One pig - steady cruising rides of relatively short distance, easy on the throttle, few curves, etc.
Two pigs - a bit longer or have some curves but nothing too challenging.
Three pigs - the ride should be of moderate difficulty.
Four and five pigs - rides with a high number of curves, long distance, saddle time, road conditions, speed, and weather.

ROAD TRIP
Georgia State HOG Rally – Tybee Island

Meet Time & Location – To Be Determined
Fiona and I are planning on a relaxing, back roads trip to the H.O.G. rally. My goal is to stay off the highways as much as possible. Of course this means the ride can take as much as seven hours to complete, but then again that’s why we bought these chrome beauties to begin with! We will travel on roads and through towns we have probably never been through before.
If you are interested in coming along, please e-mail me at erik@grandowski.com or call me at 404-580-6759 before Monday, September 8, and we can plan a meeting place and time. I would like to leave early so we can hit Tybee Island around mid to late afternoon. Due to the length, I would rate this as a 2.5 to 3 pigs ride.
Drop me a line if you are interested.

Dahlonega Autumn Fest
This ride will be a leisurely trip toward Dahlonega for the Autumn Fest being held in the town square. Come join us for a ride through Dallas toward Cartersville, up through Kingston, Adairsville, Dawsonville, and across to Dahlonega. The ride will be about 140 miles of secondary, easy curving roads. Once we arrive at the square, the ride will officially end, but I plan on having lunch at Pueblos, a great Mexican restaurant on the edge of the square. I will make reservations before we leave for the ride for all those interested.
The weather should be cooler, and the company will be great for this 3-pig ride, Hope to see you Sunday!

Old Mill Museum
Get your motor running for this ride. We will take a ride to this awesome museum. Les White of
Leslie Homes in Macon purchased Juliette's gristmill in 2000. Inspired by his passion for antique
and vintage motorcycles, White renovated two floors of the gristmill, 2500 sq. ft. for the
museum. In 2006 White moved his private residence to the main section of the gristmill. Check
out his web site at http://www.antiquesofthelake.com/mill//index.html
I have made arrangements to get a "Behind the Scenes" tour of the entire property. For lunch you can pack a picnic or go to the famous Whistle Stop Café.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Saddle & Paddle Recap
Paddle & Saddle 2008 Pictures
We all met early Saturday morning, to the chagrin of some. We mounted up and headed north in
two groups. If my math is correct, we had 26 bikes once we picked up my old friend who merged
into the group on I-575. We made one stop in East Ellijay at the Wal-Mart gas station (with one
bathroom), your road captain will not make that mistake again. We left there and hurried to the
motel in Robbinsville, NC to drop off our luggage. We then rode over to Adventurous Fast
Rivers Rafting to eat our lunch and get on the river. The folks there were nice enough to allow us
to include three additional rafters. We had a total of 27 folks rafting in four rafts. Now the fun
part begins, we get on the river and guess who was one of the first to get launched out of his raft, ME! There were also two others in my raft that got launched at the same time. Well, after nearly drowning and getting beat up by the river rocks I managed to get to my raft after everyone finally realized that I was not in the boat and paddled to the shore to wait for me. Otherwise, I would have had to hitch hike back to Adventurous Fast Rivers, and I don't have the legs to hitch hike. After we finished rafting, we changed clothes and took the longest 20-mile ride to Sylva, NC and had supper at Bogart's. It was a very good supper, and the ribs looked GREAT! After we rode
back to the motel, it was wonderful, we all sat around outside of the motel and just relaxed and
told the stories of the day, it was nice.
Sunday morning we arose and those of us who were lucky had Noel make us a waffle. It was
foggy and nasty looking when we left the motel. By the time we got to the first overlook on the
Cherohala Sky way, the sun was up, and it was absolutely beautiful. We took a nice leisurely ride
with several stops at the scenic overlooks and one stop at the waterfall off the sky way. We took
our time and we ate lunch at a nice little restaurant next to a creek. It had a very good lunch at
very good prices. I can see it becoming a regular lunch stop on this ride. I do plan on making this an annual ride.
I want to thank Chris Robey for leading the second group and Diana Bodden for riding sweep.
This was my first overnight ride that I have lead, and I would like to thank everyone who came
out and rode with us. I had a blast. If you have never been on an overnight ride, you need to go.
You really get to bond with people.

Bikes & Babes Recap
Bikes & Babes Contest 2008 Pictures
I just wanted to take a second to thank all the members of this chapter for the way they come out and participate in the events for the chapter and dealership. We had 24 volunteers throughout the day for the Bikes & Babes event. It was a warm day that threatened rain and we had people who were out there all day. The great thing about our members is that when it was brought to my
attention what was needed all I had to do was mention it to any member and then I could put it
out of my mind, it was taken care of. You guys are great and I just wanted to make sure you
know how much I appreciate all of you.

Lost Sea Recap
Lost Sea 2008 Pictures
Well we had four bikes show up so for a Friday and an overnighter not bad. We left on time went
out through west Cobb and I was heading up 61 out of Dallas to go out Braswell Mtn. Rd. to 113
and then up the back way into Cartersville.
I had just looked at my watch and said to myself “right on time”
A car slowed down in front of me to make a right hand turn, I signaled to slow down, rolled off
the throttle and when I went to roll back on…nothing…zilch...nada, no throttle. I had snapped a throttle cable.
I rolled as far as I could, pulled off the side into a driveway in the shade and the others stopped behind me. So we determined what had happened and started taking the bike apart. Thanks to Joe Tesare and his wife who had plenty of tools.
I called Harley of Cartersville, no throttle cable, called Atlanta Harley…no throttle cable. I called Extreme Cycles in Dallas….yea throttle cable. I sent one of the bikes back with $50 to get the cable and he returned about 25 minutes with the cable
We worked and worked to get it fed through the right way without taking the tank off and getting it to the fuel injection, finally getting it hooked up and put back together. It worked but I had no throttle return so we turned around and headed back to Extreme Cycles in Dallas to have them look at it. They took the bike in and started on it immediately.
We all decided it was lunch time to go to Pizza Hut to have a beer and get some grub. But alas
six people, three bikes. T my wife rode with Gary on his Ultra, Joe and his wife on their Ultra,
and yes you guessed it me riding bitch with Mark on his Ultra. You can stop laughing anytime
now!
Lunch was great, I tried to pay for everyone’s since I had messed up the day but no one would allow it. Joe and his wife decided to head back home since they had not planned on going all the way to Sweetwater anyhow. Gary and Mark rode…..yes me riding bitch again to my house (we
were only about 6 miles from it) and we got the cage and went had to go to Earl Small in
Marietta for the right cable and got both of them this time. By the time I got back to Extreme, it
took til like 4:30 to finish it and get the bike on the road. Gary and Mark had gone on and we
went home with a working bike but with a day of riding shot.
We had thought about riding up on Saturday but changed our mind. However, I do want to
reschedule this trip for a Saturday maybe later in summer or early fall. It will be along day but
you can ride up and back in a day. It is only about four hours from here including stops.

Copperhead Lodge Recap
Sending out a BIG THANKS to all 15 people/13 bikes that joined me in my first "official Road
Captain " ride.
I think it was a success! We enjoyed the scenic route to Blairsville, GA. We rode 80 miles to our first stop for gas and a break. Back on the bikes to enjoy some twisty roads with a second stop at the "Mountain Store.” We walked out to the scenic overlook for a view of the Appalachian Mountains and a group photo. Then off to Copperhead Lodge for great food and conversation.
