Wow! I am in Awe! If you ever get the chance to attend Primary Officer's Training (P.O.T.), you
will have an Exciting, Enlightening and Empowering weekend!
National H.O.G. knows how to do things right. I heard people from other chapter's say that
P.O.T. is their reason for becoming an officer with their local Chapters. Because it's so addictive, you just can't get enough!
This seminar was so full of motivating information, good food, fun people and the networking
with the other chapter's officers is so rewarding.
We have brought back some great ideas to incorporate into our chapter. We also shared a few of
our ideas with some of our "brother's and sister's" from all around country. We all can benefit
from new and creative ideas to make our experiences more fun and enjoyable. Summer is
approaching and we have a lot of fun in store for you.
Therefore, stays tuned to the website and keep your email contact information up to date so we
can let you know as new things are coming your way. If you do not do e-mail call Chris at
770-367-1386 to set up an easier way for you to stay in contact with the chapter.

Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@bellsouth.net. Thanks!!

Skip Work and Get Your License
Hey all of you unlicensed H.O.G. riders, (we know who you are). Recent changes in the Georgia
Motorcycle safety program have made it a lot easier to get your motorcycle endorsement. If you
have a motorcycle permit you can get your motorcycle endorsement by taking a one day MSF
course. No standing in the DMV lines, no risk of being fined for not having a license, we’ve
heard of fines costing as much as $500, plus insurance discounts for taking the MSF course
(check with your carrier). Here’s the offer: Call your employer and report off sick, show up at the dealership with your bike, take the class and get your course completion card. The cost is only $150.00. Class size is limited.
Class schedule: Friday June 13 or Saturday June 14

Who was Dale Moorefield
Dale Moorefield was one of the founders of the Atlanta Chapter of the Harley Owner’s
Group (H.O.G.), the Captain of Detectives for the Forest Park Police Department, an
Instructor at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA and Clayton
County Police Academy. Dale was a dedicated motorcycle rider. He was a member of the
Blue Knights Chapter 1. He was a big-hearted, kind and gentle person who never met a
stranger and had the uncommon ability to make a new acquaintance feel like an old time
friend. Dale was famous for his “lunch rides” where he would suggest riding up to the
Dillard House for lunch and a couple hours after the meal the group would pass a sign
saying “Welcome to Virginia” on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Dale’s idea of a lunch ride for burritos was going to Athens to “Compadres,” which was fitting due to his outgoing and friendly personality.
Yes, Dale loved to ride motorcycles anywhere and anytime. It was the result of this passion
that Dale is not with us today. In October of 1996 Dale was on a Blue Knights Ride up in
Blue Ridge, Georgia when he and his passenger were struck by a driver who ran a red
traffic light. Dale was Life-flighted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga and passed
away due to a treatment error during surgery.
THE BAR-B-QUE IS PUT ON BY THE WELLINGTON MASONIC LODGE AND THE
BOSTWICK VOL. FIRE DEPT.
Dale loved Bostwick, the people, and the bar-b-que.
Pig Ride Legend
One pig - steady cruising rides of relatively short distance, easy on the throttle, few curves, etc.
Two pigs - a bit longer or have some curves but nothing too challenging.
Three pigs - the ride should be of moderate difficulty.
Four and five pigs - rides with a high number of curves, long distance, saddle time, road conditions, speed, and weather.
MEMBER'S ARTICLE
Happy Father’s Day
This article was first published in May of 1997. On July 13, 1997, at the age of 75 we lost Jack
Morgan, former Harley-Davidson test rider, experimental aircraft pilot, jovial host and
curmudgeon. He was also my dad. If I may share:
Buddy Seats and Dads
I took my first Harley ride in the spring of 1947. This is not particularly noteworthy unless you
consider that I wasn’t born until November 1947. It helped that the “Old Man” was a test rider
for Harley back when the test tracks were named US Hwy. 32, Wisconsin County Trunk K; the
crash barriers were pine trees and snow drifts (yep, they tested year ‘round). In the spirit of
fathers day and in keeping with his own amazement that he’s made it 75 years (now he prefers
his sidecar rig because an old guy shouldn’t have to pick up a dresser) I recall the Buddy Seat.
The call to action was simple: “Flip ‘em up.”
My job was to flip the dual coil seat springs into place for a “buddy” ride. It was on one such ride
that I learned the meaning of “buddy seat.”
We were cruising down some ol’ country road in Cambridge, Wisconsin, when then normally
stable Harley became involved in some insane 65 mph dance. We were suddenly part bucking
bronco, part agitated snake and all messed up.
The old man yelled back’ “HOLD ON”...a truly unnecessary command as my young hands wee
creating new shapes in the solid steal seat bars! As fast as it started, the old man took charge and
pulled the road back under us.
“High speed wobble” he casually announced “we lost a few that way.”
“umm...” Seemed like the best response for a 12 year old.
All these years later, thinking about the high and low points between us, I’m glad he pulled the
solo saddle and bolted on the buddy seat.
Happy Father’s day to all the dads out there and a special one for the old guy in Wisconsin.
RIP POPS 2/4/22-7/13/97

2008 Rolling on for MDA
When people ask us about riding, where we go, what we do, etc., we laugh and tell them, We ride
for food and T-shirts. However, we, like you, also ride for charities. The MDA Ride is one of
those charities. If you stop and think, I am sure you know of at least one person that suffers or
suffered from Muscular Dystrophy. Tandy and I can tell you of four.
The 6th Annual Rolling on for MDA will be on Saturday, June 7. Registration begins at 4:00
p.m. at the Marietta Square and the ride will leave the square at 5:30 p.m.. We will have a group
leaving from the HDA pavilion. The exact time has not been decided as yet, probably sometime
between 3:30 and 4:30.
The $40 per person registration fee will help MDA provide assistance in the purchase of wheel
chairs, leg braces & communication devices to those it serves. MDA is a voluntary health agency dedicated to funding treatments and cures for 43 diseases. MDA relies solely on private and
individual contributions. ALL funds raised at this event will directly benefit local citizens and
families served by MDA. For the $40 registration fee, you receive (1) entry for the ride, (1) ride
T-shirt, (1) ride pin, (1) goodie bag, (1) meal, and (5) raffle tickets. The ride events include a
scenic loop ride through Cobb Co. beginning and ending at the Marietta Square, food, live band,
vendor's booths, raffle prizes, awards and more. Therefore, on June 7, you get to ride, you get
food, a pin, a T-shirt AND it s for a charity!
The 2007 Rolling on for MDA Ride was a well organized, safe ride, ending with a good time at
the Marietta Square. At the May Chapter Meeting, there will be an MDA representative there
with information to promote the ride. If you would like additional information, you can go to
www.mdausa.org.
For the 2007 Rolling on for MDA Ride, the Atlanta Chapter HOG had two bikes representing the
chapter. This year we would like an exceptional turn out, especially with Harley-Davidson of
Atlanta being a Bronze Sponsor of this event. Please save the date, Saturday, June 7! See you
there!

Doctor’s Order Ride
Are you feeling down, is your energy level not what it used to be, has your stress level reached the point of inevitable spontaneous combustion? Then what you need is a good dose of Dr.
Chris's motorcycle therapy. We can have you back on your feet as well as new in one afternoon.
Hard to believe you say? Well come on out Thursday, June 26 and let me show you the way.
Group therapy will begin at 10:00 a.m., and then we will head on a relaxing therapeutic road trip
for lunch at 10.30 a.m. There is nothing like fresh air and bugs in your teeth to rejuvenate your
body and soul. If the boss asks where you're, just tell him it's the doctor's orders.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Catfish Cabin Recap
WOW what more can I say but wow. When I left the house the sun shining and a clear blue sky, I
was expecting four or five bikes on the gorgeous Wednesday morning. I was so wrong, when we
left the dealership, there were 14 people on 13 bikes. I have had people saying for three years that
we needed to have some weekday rides, and it looks like we did. The ride was great, the food
was great (but it did take almost an hour to get), and all in all this was a great ride. I want to
thank Andy Andresen for sweeping the ride and Jim Bird for running the middle, there were a
few future road captains working out their requirements, but I won't mention their names so their
boss' won't find out LOL. I will defiantly be doing more of the rides and in the future I will try to
have a doctor along to make sure all the sick chapter members have their excuses when they go
back to work.
