MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings, chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
“21 YEARS OF RIDING AND HAVING FUN” that sums up 2008 for me. The Atlanta Chapter
HOG has been providing rides and enjoyment since 1985. I want to thank Tom, Terri, Scott and
Andy for all of the hard work they have done for the chapter, they have all assured me that they
will continue being active in the chapter and continue to help where they can. Make sure to thank
them when you see them. A lot of you already know me but for those that don't I wanted to
introduce myself. I bought my first Harley a 1995 1200 Sportster in July of 2001 and joined the
Atlanta Chapter in late 2001. My first ride with the chapter was to Crow's Nest Lunch Ride June
9, 2002. I honestly don't remember a lot of details but I remember all of the members were very
nice and I met Linda Williams, my first friend in the chapter. Since then I have logged a lot of
miles with the chapter, participated in a lot of events, made a lot of very good friends and spent
the last two years as Head Road Captain. When I was asked if I was interested in becoming
Director I took some time to think about it and see if I could put together a group of officers that
were up to large task of moving your chapter in the direction that you the members want. I feel
that the 2008 officers are just that. On December 2, the officers and few members got together to
discuss what direction we wanted to take the chapter the meeting was very productive and we
ended up with a lot of ideas. By the time you receive this edition of the HOGWASH we should
have the list compiled, organized and be ready to put together a mission statement that will let
everyone know who we as a chapter are and where we are going. But before we put this in stone I
want the membership’s opinions and suggestions. On January 17th we will have our monthly
meeting at the Olive Tree; this meeting will be a little different. I want every member who can to
attend. We will be having a Q & A town hall type meeting so all of the members can give input
on what they would like to see with the chapter. I hope to see all of you there. It is important to
the officers to know what the chapter wants. There are other ideas in the works, 2008 is going to
be a great year and I plan on seeing every one of you participating and supporting your chapter. If
you are not receiving the weekly reminders from the chapter let me know. If it is because you do
not have e-mail then also let me know so we if there is another way to get you the weekly info.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Happy New Year, everyone. First of all, I'd like to welcome everyone to 2008 and to The Atlanta
Chapter. Before I get started, I would like to personally thank Tom, Scott, Terri, and Andy for
their hard work and sacrifice for the chapter.
For those of you who don't know me, Michelle, and I bought our first Harley in August of 2005. I
believe we joined the Atlanta chapter either September or October that same year. Our first event
was the Christmas party that year. We were lost and really didn't get to know anyone that night.
Not realizing that the chapter membership ran the calendar year and not from the date that you
joined National HOG, we came to the January chapter meeting at "The Olive Tree.” Well, we
weren't on the list, however we signed up for 2006 that night and were openly welcomed. Since
then we have met some lifelong, wonderful friends. The first ride I went on was a Mt. Cheaha
ride led by David Trefzger, having never been on a HOG ride and knowing quickest route to
Oxford, AL I thought we were lost. After the ride I realized that half the fun is getting there, I
later realized that HOG is all about riding and having fun. I have logged many miles on chapter
rides since that day, so much so that I've earned my 10,000 mile pin & a patch, & I'm working on my 25,000 mile patch & pin now. In late 2006 I was approached about becoming a road captain. I
was apprehensive at first because I had only been riding for a year and a half. I took the faith that
people had in me and put it into myself. It's been a wonderful experience. Therefore, when Chris
approached me about being the assistant director I was very excited about the opportunity. I look
forward to serving the chapter.
I know we have the January meeting coming up, and it will be a town hall typesetting, but a
question was posed to me and honestly I didn't have a good answer, so I thought it would be a
good question to ask the members. If you see me before the meeting or after the meeting or just
at the dealership or anywhere and have your answer to the question, please approach me and let
me know. The question is: When you joined the Atlanta HOG Chapter what did you expect out
of being a member? When I was asked that question I really didn't have a good answer. I bought
my bike and really didn't have anyone to ride with so it helped me in getting out and riding, a
byproduct of that was that I made some very good friends, and have enjoyed some wonderful
fellowship with other riders. Therefore, if you see me and know what your answer to that
question is or if you have some expectations please let me or any of the officers know. Thank you
all for everything that you do to make this chapter great.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
Well, it’s going to get interesting! All these new people and ideas! The new officers are all jived up and ready to start a ruckus in the club. Rebels with a cause!
Turns out they want all of us to help, imagine that! I have agreed to assist the club as the new
Head Road Captain. After being the side kick for some time, I hope to do some kickin’ myself,
Kick stand kicking that is. I say lets ride and have some fun! I re-joined HOG after being
several years away to make friends and have people I could ride with. Thank you for allowing
me to contribute.
My job is to help the Road Captains. I am happy to welcome some new and many experienced
faces to our ride captain list for 2008!
Chris Robey, Jon Lower, Jon Provost, Ed Chowning, Gene Williams, Steve Magel, Tom
Sigerfoos, Tom Arnold, Scott Vandiver, Skeeter (shhhh! He doesn’t know it yet!), Bobby
Conway, Erik Grandowski, Harry Coggins, and more,
An unfortunate truth about most parts of the world is that it eventually gets cold (what where?).
Sometimes it’s too cold to ride your motorcycle (not possible). Winter is a fact of life for most of us, and that means planning your ride according to the conditions. Dress for the cold and peel
off as you need to. Day Rides can be fun and easy. Large or Small groups can venture off to
local or more southern locations and enjoy the sunny weather further south of the boarders. Call
or email a fellow member and invite them out for a ride. One or two people can make a fun ride
into a great ride.
As our organized rides spread out a bit for the next couple months, we all love to take advantage
of the great southern climate and jump on our bike for the day with some friends. Sometimes
people just need an invitation. Reach out and kick someone.
Whether you've been a rider for a week, a month, a year, or a lifetime, you are part of the Harley-Davidson family. As a H.O.G. ® member, you know how important the spirit of connection is to
our heritage – a heritage built upon the individual stories, passion, and experiences of each rider, dealer, and friend. After all, our stories, passion and experiences form the very connections that make Harley-Davidson what it is.
Then there is always that person that may put their bike away for months at a time. (Whoever
said that life is fair?) As painful as the idea may be, it pays to take the time to do it properly.
Your motorcycle will serve you longer and hold its value better if you take the time to prepare it
for hibernation. Plus, you'll be rewarded on that first warm spring day with a bike that doesn't
need as much prep before it's ready to roll (and that is less likely to surprise you with a previously
undetected maintenance issue).
We welcome anyone with ride ideas or interested in leading a ride of any size or location, to
contact myself or any of the officers.
We look forward to riding with you in 2008. Let the adventures begin.

ACTIVITY OFFICER'S REPORT
Great Things in Store for 2008
There are many new faces on the Atlanta Chapter, HOG Officer and Director listing in 2008, and
I am one of them. My name is Erik Grandowski, and I have served as a chapter Road Captain in
2007. For those who endured my mundane rides, thanks for coming, and if you have not had the
pleasure of getting lost with me in Rome, or Alabama, hopefully we will scratch our heads
staring at a map together in 2008. I must admit, it will be tough following Terri’s years of
dedication and great work, but I will give it my best shot.
Since 2008 will bring us a host of new rides and Captains courtesy of Dianna Bodden, our new
Head Road Captain, I am going to direct my focus on riding-optional events that focus on
building the social side of the chapter. Now most people will say, “How do you plan to do that;
you don’t even come to the monthly meetings!” Well that’s true, and hopefully, it will change by mid-year, but it will not stop me from planning some great events for everyone to participate in, fostering the true spirit of being a “HOG Family.”
My goal is to offer at least one social event per quarter. The first being a trip to the International Motorcycle show at the World Congress Center in January to view all of the new American iron, and snicker at the “other stuff.” Afterwards, we can all gather at nearby Jock’s & Jills’ Restaurant in CNN Center and have a great late lunch/early dinner together. You can ride to the event if you want, but I will arrive in my cage, so don’t feel ashamed if you do the same.
Other social events I plan to either continue or introduce are Movie Night at the HD Pavilion,
combined chapter meetings/bowling parties, and possibly a paintable outing. However, the
culminating event will happen with the first ever Atlanta Chapter HOG and Great South Chapter
HOG Summer Picnic. Dubbed “The Metro Atlanta HOG Summer Funlympics”, this will be an
event filed with all sorts of games and activities, providing great fun for everyone, and the
opportunity to expand your HOG circle of friends.
Of course, the success of these events will be based on YOUR participation and volunteerism, so
if you are interested in playing an active role in ensuring the success of your HOG chapter, join
the event committees when they are announced.
Once again, I thank you for the opportunity to be the chapter event and activities coordinator for
2008, and I would like to personally wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous 2008, and may you
ride to your heart’s content.

MEMBERSHIP OFFICER'S REPORT
Happy New Year, everyone. First of all I’d like to welcome everyone to 2008 and to the Atlanta
Chapter. I served in 2007 as your Membership Officer, but some of you may still not know a lot
about me. So let me introduce myself.
My name is Michelle Conway and I have been married to Bobby since 2004. We purchased our
first Harley in August of 2005 and joined the Atlanta HOG chapter. I spent approximately 1 year
riding behind Bobby and decided that I would like to have my own bike. In March of this year we
purchased a 2004 Fat Boy for me; I took the Rider’s Edge course and got my license. I have been
riding and having fun ever since! I then realized the bike that I really wanted was the Heritage.
We were very fortunate and found a used ’07 with only 12 miles on it and it was black and red!
My dream bike!
I look forward to serving as your Membership Officer in 2008 and encourage you to contact me
with any membership questions or any question that you have. The best way to contact me is
through email, I can be reached at atlhogmembership@gmail.com. Again I, along with the other
officers, am very excited about 2008.
We are going to have a lot of things happening and look forward to seeing all of you in the
coming year!

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@bellsouth.net. Thanks!!

January Meeting
As most of you have already heard our monthly meeting will be a town hall Q & A meeting at the
Olive Tree 849 Thornton Rd, Lithia Springs, GA (770) 948-1288. The Olive Tree is just down
the road from Harley-Davidson of Atlanta towards I-20. If you need directions just let me know.
We are also asking that all who plan to attend will send a RSVP to atlhogrsvp@gmail.com with
your name and how many will be coming with you. This will be standard for all the meetings in
2008 so that the officers will know better how many people to expect. I hope to see you all there.

ICE Your Cell Phone
Paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea they are trying to get everyone to adopt: I.C.E. ICE
stands for In Case of Emergency. You can save emergency responders time and have your loved
ones contacted quickly if you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone. Under ICE, list
the name and phone number of the person that emergency services should call on your behalf.
Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.
Pig Ride Legend
One pig - steady cruising rides of relatively short distance, easy on the throttle, few curves, etc.
Two pigs - a bit longer or have some curves but nothing too challenging.
Three pigs - the ride should be of moderate difficulty.
Four and five pigs - rides with a high number of curves, long distance, saddle time, road conditions, speed, and weather.

Good Luck Ride
I hope everyone will come out on January 1st for the chapters annual Tommy Tyner/Good Luck
Ride. We will meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 10am and leave out at 10:30am. It will be a
nice easy ride down to Buckner’s in Jackson, Georgia. If you don’t feel the weather is motorcycle friendly come in the car. I hope everyone will come and start the year off right with your HOG family.

January 2008 Atlanta Chapter HOG Event – The International Motorcycle Show
On Sunday, January 20,2008, we will kick off the Atlanta HOG events and activities season with a bang, with a trip to the International Motorcycle Show at the World Congress Center in
downtown Atlanta. This is a great opportunity to check out all of the new American iron, and
snicker at the "other stuff". Afterwards, we will all gather at nearby Jock's & Jills' Restaurant in CNN Center and have a great late lunch/early dinner together. You can ride to the event if you
want, but I will arrive in my cage, so don't feel ashamed if you do the same.
If you are interested in attending, please send me an RSVP before Monday, January 7th. To
RSVP for the event, CLICK HERE.
The amount of RSVP's will dictate if we get a private room at the restaurant or not. I will forward
a meeting location and map to everyone who RSVP's.
This is a great opportunity to see some cool motorcycle stuff during the doldrums of winter, and
a wonderful chance to meet fellow chapter members!

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Signal Mountain 4 Ride Recap
Three weekends ago, I made Dianna's great ride to Burt's Farm. Little did I know the ride would
re-kindle my passion for the machine, the road and most of all my friends? This, along with some
coaxing by other riders, convinced me to pull together the 4th Annual Signal Mountain Ride. I
am a bit of a realist and was anticipating a small group. However, once again, you showed your
strength and love for the HD family. We had 20 bikes and 24 friends. We rode more than 500
miles on Saturday and Sunday.
We traversed the back roads of Northwest GA, followed the River through Suck Creek (yes,
that's its real name; I didn't make this up) and stopped for a private lunch at the River's Inn. So
close to the river you could drop a fishing' line. We sat at a table with the River and Lookout
Mountain's fall color at our front door. Magnificent...what a gift!
I couldn't believe Peter and Bill finished the triple-decker burgers. How did they get their mouths
over that big stack? The catfish and shrimp were good also. After lunch, we tackled Signal
Mountain. From a series of fast long curves to switchbacks at 10 mph, we enjoyed them all. The
Brow Road provided a clear view of Chattanooga, the River and Lookout Mountain to the east
and the Million dollar homes on our west. You had to be careful not to stare too long in either
direction for the twist and turns without a guard rail could make for a nasty fall.
After Signal, we enjoyed a sunset at Signal Point and opted to blast up Monteagle Pass using, I-24W, darkness meant it would get even colder! We arrived safely at the Best
Western/Smokehouse. We cleaned up and enjoyed homemade Popcorn around a blazing warm
bonfire.
Sunday morning we had a Veterans Vigil at the Peace Memorial, Sewannee University. What a
view, "I could see for miles and miles and miles, oh yeah" (Pete Townsend, The Who) After the
Vigil, some elected for the fast route home, while about 14 bikes chose the long way. As a result,
off we went through Sewanee, Valley Head, Stevenson, Mentone, Menlo, Summerville, Coosa,
Cedartown and Dallas. Another great day!
I told the group on Sunday morning, “Let’s keep doing this. I will commit to the Signal
Mountain. Ride for November 2008." So put it on your calendar now for the 1st and 2nd or 8th
and 9th, November 2008. These are Saturday/Sunday weekends. Keep your eyes on the
HOGWASH for updates.
Many thanks to Diana and Andy for helping me to lead the group. Thanks also to the 24 friends
who rode on short notice. YOU ARE AWESOME!
To all HOG members, have a safe, healthy and happy Holiday Season!
Love to Ride, Ride to Love,
Steve Magel, Road Captain
Butler's Mill Ride Recap
The weather started off nice and sunny with the warmth starting to build, however we capped off
at about 68 degrees and overcast. We had a good turnout for this Sunday early afternoon ride
with fourteen people on twelve bikes ready to roll to Graham, Alabama. During the pre-ride
meeting, I admitted to creating the holy grail of Road Captain errors, I did not perform a pre-ride
to the restaurant.
I knew approximately where the restaurant was (Alabama), and did create a generic, useless map
the night before, but the group was mostly comprised of those who been to Butler's Mill before,
so how could we miss! Well, we almost did. We traveled down Route 78 and 100 to get in the
general area, and then I turned on my trusty GPS take over for the last leg of the journey. Well,
that led to a bridge being closed, a detour, and a slew of small county roads that do not appear on
any map I own. Just when I thought we were close, my trusty GPS goes blank. Welcome to my
nightmare, a slew of experienced riders following me, and I relegated all of my trust into a piece
of modern technology that stopped working. Just as I thought I would have to swallow a bit of
crow and pull over to ask someone in the group for directions, I saw a sign from above; well
really more in front of me, a small sign at an intersection which read "Butler's Mill" with an
arrow pointing left. Thanks Goodness!
The food was great, and spending time with the Harley group is always the best thing going. A
special thanks to Joe and Joanne Tesar for riding sweep and Kevin Magill for riding mid-captain.
Next time, I will pre-ride...maybe.
