MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings, chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Thoughts from Tom
Wow what a turnout! To say it was a little more than may have been expected is putting it
mildly. I’m referring to the recent 1ST Annual Harley-Davidson of Atlanta Bike Show and Beauty Contest. Competitors in both the bike show and beauty pageant would be competing for
the privilege to grace the pages of the 2008 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta Calendar.
Under threatening skies with clouds and small showers the people began to gather. It wasn’t long ago that there was a bike show with only seven contestants. Well this time there were 87. When
the weather looked iffy, we parked the bikes under the tent. When that filled up, we parked them
outside the tent. Then more showed up and twice we had to move the registration table farther to
allow room for more competitors’ bikes. Pretty soon they were stretched from the front of the
store to the bay doors of the service department. There would have been more but we closed the
registration at 2:00 P.M. as was advertised.
Then after the bike show we had to clear all the bikes out of the tent to get set for the beauty
pageant. During this down time the crowd of several hundred was treated to good music by two
different bands. Food, snow cones, and beer were available. Big air pillow attractions were
available for the kids. The sun came out and the crowd grew. It was hot and muggy but people
really enjoyed themselves.
While all this activity was taking place a large crowd gathered at the rear entrance in front of the
Harley-Davidson sign. The beauty pageant contestants were showcasing the winning bikes for
photographers. I’ve never seen so many cell phone cameras in use.
Once all the photos were complete, we started the Beauty Pageant. Randy Snyder of Full
Throttle Magazine was the host for the pageant. There were a number of VIP’s who paid for
table seating near the stage. There were 27 girls who registered for the pageant and when the
show was over Jeanette Burke was crowned Ms. Harley-Davidson of Atlanta.
This was the first dealership event of this kind of which I have been a part. Although I don’t
know what the final numbers were I think it was a huge success. Actually I don’t think we could
have handled much more success. I consider the event a success and a good time for many
reasons. I want to share a couple of those thoughts.
I confess that I do not know every Chapter member. There are approximately 250 and not
everyone participates on a regular basis. So when a guy named Billy comes up and volunteers to
help I put him to work. Billy worked hard all afternoon and into the evening until everything was
over. When I thanked him for all his help I learned that he was not a member. He told me he was
a friend to Randy Snyder and just wanted to help and do what he could. He and several Chapter
volunteers were invaluable. (More on that later.) The next reason I feel this event was a success
is that Terri, Brad and I had a positive encounter at a Mexican restaurant the following week. A
man named Sam recognized Terri and Brad. He remembered Terri as an organizer at the photo shoot. As he put it “you were that lady that was kicking butt back there, getting it done.” He also remembered Brad as the snow cone man. Sam had his four-year-old granddaughter with him that
day and she liked the snow cones. Sam told us that this had been his first event of this type. He
went on and on about how much he enjoyed it and how much fun he and his granddaughter had.
For those who were there you know what I’m talking about (a story of people who touched lives
or had their lives touched by a Bike Show/ Beauty Contest and the people who worked to make
it such a success).
Along with all the employees who worked their tails off there were a number of Chapter
volunteers that must be recognized. Some of these Chapter volunteers worked as much as ten
hours. So I would like to thank and recognize the efforts put forth by them: Todd Graham, Terri
Varnum, Brad Varnum, Beth Barrett, Tandy Barrett, BK Ellis, Dirt Jones, Bobby and Michelle Conway,
Sonny Guntermann, Steve Hart and his son, Gary Griffin, Rita Rogers, Rene Durham, and Scott
and Corolla Vandiver. If I missed someone I apologize. The volunteers performed many
functions: signing people up for the bike show, parking the bikes, registering the bikes, directing
traffic flow, serving food, drinks and snow cones, escorting the girls for the beauty pageant from
the RV to the photo shoots and the stage for the contest. So to all of you VOLUNTEERS, take
pride in what we accomplished on a hot July day. The event and the calendar next year are a
success because of you.
Until Next Time Ride for Fun,

15th Annual Georgia State H.O.G. Rally
Rock, Roll, and Rumble in Macon, GA. Smack dab in the center of Georgia, Macon has oodles to
offer. Tasty Food, rich history, soulful music, and great riding are just a few of the things you'll
find in Macon. From Nu-Way Weiners to Lane Peaches you'll find tasty eats in Macon.
Interested in history? Try a visit to the Hay House, the Tubman Museum or the GA Sports Hall
of Fame. This is an excerpt from the rally website.
Corolla and I were recently entertained by the Rally Committee and some Macon officials. We
are getting more enthusiastic about the Rally.
Since we all like to eat, drink and be merry you will surely enjoy the “First Friday” celebration in downtown Macon. This is a big street party where two city blocks are closed off for a street party. In September HOG is the Honored Guest. Imagine a city throwing a street party for HOG.
There will be live music and food in several locations. Macon relaxes the liquor laws (just a bit)
for this street party from 4-10 pm. The parade of bikes will start at the Central City Park and ride
through Macon and end up at the street party. For the duration of the Rally there will be a
Trolley provided from the Host Hotel to several locations downtown as well as to the field event
location and parade staging area if you decide to let someone else drive. (The Trolley is free of
charge to registered Rally participants.)
The Host Hotel has secure parking for the Rally. There are guided rides everyday to places like
Andersonville POW Camp, Julliette for Fried Green Tomatoes, the Air and Space Museum in
Warner Robbins. There are several Museums in Macon: the GA Music Hall of Fame and the GA
Sports Hall of Fame and the Tubman Museum. Several historic homes like the Hay House are
available for tours. The Macon Dealer has events planned at their location as well. They will
have vendors like Drag Specialties on site, as well as food and music. There are several different
games planned this year, both with a bike and without.
Let’s Rock Roll and Rumble in Macon.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
A Word from Chris
I have found the hardest part of being an officer is coming up with an article every month that is
related to my position. So once again I’m going to detour off my area this month. I have had a
lot of changes in my life over the last year but one thing has been constant, HOG. I have been a
member of National HOG and the Atlanta chapter since 2001. I have met a lot of great people
and most of my closest friends within the HOG family over the last six years. The way I have
chosen to respond to such an impact was to become an officer. As head road captain I have
learned more and more about the HOG organization. All but a very small percentage is good.
The Atlanta Chapter has always been friendly and forth coming to any other chapter that might
be looking for information or advice. Personally as a HOG member I think that everyone in
HOG is a brother or a sister. There are other chapters who seem to have the attitude “you’are either with us or against us”. Some are political or cliquish. These are not good attitudes. HOG is all about family and the group as a whole. We have to remember that there are a lot of “Chapters” in a book. HOG is a very big novel that encompasses anyone that is involved and serious about their motorcycle and the adventures.
HOG is a great avenue that can take all of us to the places we want to go. We all have to
remember that it isn’t about individual chapters or National HOG. It is about the people, the
families who are joined by the hobby, sport or whatever you want to call it. It’s about all of us
coming together, riding and living the dream. So the next time someone asks you who you ride
with be proud of YOUR Chapter. Always remember that you belong to a much bigger family.
And if you haven’t been out with the Atlanta Chapter lately, we miss you.
See you on the next Ride,
Chris Robey

Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!

ICE Your Cell Phone
Paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea they are trying to get everyone to adopt: I.C.E. ICE
stands for In Case of Emergency. You can save emergency responders time and have your loved
ones contacted quickly if you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone. Under ICE, list
the name and phone number of the person that emergency services should call on your behalf.
Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.
Carr Plans Ulysses Odyssey
Lithia Springs, GA -- June 8, 2007
Weekend motorcycle rides on rural mountain roads are usually filled with fun and packed with adventure. But how about a ride from Usuhuaia, Argentina, the southernmost tip of South America to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the northernmost tip of North America? Under the auspices of
Harley-Davidson of Atlanta, this not-for-profit event is being called the Ulysses Odyssey Project. Like Homer’s mythical Ulysses and his famous Odyssey, Chris Carr of HDA is planning such a trip in August of this year. Carr, piloting a Buell Ulysses XB12X motorcycle, said “The trip is designed to accomplish two purposes: to set a new world record for the distance and to strengthen the American Cancer Society. Beginning August 15, 2007, Carr will cover approximately 17,000 grueling miles and cross thirteen countries in South America, Central America, Mexico, and North America.
Asked why he chose the Buell XB12X, also known as the Buell Ulysses, he said “because it is that special kind of machine that’s equally at home on Alaska’s treacherous Dalton Highway as well as the hairpin mountain curves of Chile and Peru.” He explained that the Buell’s “increased suspension travel and great ground clearance will give me the performance needed for the trip no matter how challenging the roads become.” Buell Motors, owned by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company in Milwaukee, WI, is also excited about the project. Paul James, Director of Marketing Communications for Buell added “The high handlebars and neutrally centered foot pegs will offer Chris lots of leverage for negotiating curves and turns. It will also have a headlight grill, hand guards, and frame pucks to make it the most practical choice for the trip.” While extra fuel will be carried in special containers, the 4.4-gallon fuel tank will mean fewer stops for refueling. Finally, the Ulysses XB12X will be outfitted with special racks and packs, navigation and satellite communication systems and other accessories needed for the ride. Hot
Grips® is providing hand-warmer grips for the handlebars and Pirelli is providing special tires
needed for the many difficult roads, including dirt, gravel and crushed stone. Other sponsors
include Motorola/Iridium, Pacer Fuels, GPS Systems of North America, PIAA USA, Tourmaster, Drag Specialties, Garmin, Hapag-Lloyd, Scorpion Helmets, and the Latin American Motorcycle Association.
Eddie and Chris Houghton, owners of Harley-Davidson of Atlanta, said “we’re especially pleased to support a project that will aid the American Cancer Society as well as promote the quality and performance of the amazing Buell motorcycle.”
A website, www.twowheeladventures.com currently in development, is being established so
supporters and sponsors will be able to monitor Chris’ progress. After the trip, a documentary
DVD will be available as well as on-site visits and a book detailing the experience. For
additional information contact Larry Marquit, Director of Project Marketing and
Communications at mktljm@langate.gsu.edu

ROAD TRIP
Clueless Ride
On September 1, I will be leading a ride. As the title indicates, I am absolutely clueless where
I’m going. I have a lot of ideas in my head but I can’t seem to nail one down. If you have a suggestion let me know. Keep an eye on your e-mail for the details.

The International Café
On September 22, I will be leading a ride to The International Café in Hogansville. We will meet at 10:00 A.M. and leave at 10:30 A.M. from HD of Atlanta Pavilion. This will be a 2-pig ride
through the country. We will make a brief stop at Great South for those of you who haven't been
yet. I anticipate arriving there around 11:30 A.M. From there we will make the short trip through
the country, and try some international cuisine. Great South members are welcome to join the
ride. I look forward to riding with everyone
Bobby Conway, Road Captain
A Ride to the Past
Come join me Saturday, September 29, for a 2-Pig ride to Anniston, Alabama. We’ll visit two
great museums in one stop. The Berman Museum of the World displays an extensive collection
of beautiful swords and guns dating back to Napoleon Bonaparte. Among the weapon galleries is
an extensive collection of sacred and secular art from Asia, the American Midwest and 19th-Century European sculptors. Right next door to the Berman Museum is the Anniston Museum of
Natural History. We will enjoy their newest acquisition: a complete T-Rex skeleton named Sue.
Along with Sue, we can visit the extensive galleries of Africa, the wonders of the North
American wilderness and see the mysteries of 2,000-year-old mummies. Please arrive with a full
tank and belly. Lunch will be late in the afternoon. For more information, visit
www.bermanmuseum.org and www.annistonmuseum.org. We will meet at the Harley-Davidson
pavilion at 10:00 a.m. with kick stands up at 10:30 a.m. I hope to see you there.
