MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings, chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Thoughts from Tom
The past month has been a very busy time for Brad, Terri and myself. There hasn’t been much
riding time available. Many of you who belong to the Chapter and read this newsletter or
participate in Chapter events know to whom I’m referring when I mention Brad. For those who
don’t Brad is Terri’s 14-year-old son. Brad had a kidney transplant when he was five years old. The kidney donation came from his grandmother. That kidney worked well for him for almost
ten years. Recently it began to fail and cause Brad some health issues. Brad was put on an organ
donor list in January of this year. He started dialysis in February. We would connect him to the
machine around 8:30 at night and disconnect him in the morning and he would go on to school.
As his health continued to decline, the decision was made to remove the transplanted kidney. A
few days later we came home. But there were complications and he had some internal bleeding.
Back to the hospital we went. Repairs were made and the next morning we were to come home
again. But that was not to be. The morning of May 18 a nurse who was bringing exciting news
awakened us. She told us a kidney had become available. They did some blood typing and tissue
matching to see if Brad would be a match. You just had to have been there! During the next few
hours there were many prayers, tears and phone calls to family and friends while hospital staff
prepared Brad for a transplant. The news came to us at 6:20 a.m. and they wheeled Brad into
surgery for the transplant at 10:00 a.m.
The kidney is working well and Brad is recovering well. He still has a long way to go with twice
a week trips to the hospital for checkups for the coming weeks. Things are looking good.
Words cannot express the heartfelt thanks Brad, Terri, and I have for all of our HOG Chapter
family. Your prayers, thoughts, phone calls, cards, and assistance during this time have been
many.
Now you may ask what all this has to do with motorcycle riding. Well I touched on this subject
once before but I feel compelled to mention it again. Organ Donation affects everyone, or it
should affect everyone. You see in our case a six-year-old child passed away in the Children’s
Hospital. But that was not the end of that child’s life because the parents had made the decision
to donate their child’s organs. As a result of their decision Brad received a new life because of a kidney. A sixteen-month-old baby girl received the other kidney and a young boy received the
liver. Maybe some one received the other organs.
It is our hope and prayer that one day we will learn of the donor family. Maybe they will want to
meet Brad and see what their decision has meant.
It is a sad fact but people pass away every day many as a result of motorcycle riding. Sorry but
those are the facts. I’m not going to quit riding because of these statistics. Should it happen to me, I know my family knows my wishes when it comes to organ donation. It is my hope and
prayer that you have discussed this issue with your family and are prepared for that day. Should
the unthinkable happen to you, don’t let your death be the end of you. You too can make a
difference. Think about it.
Ride for Fun,
Tom Arnold

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT
15th Annual Georgia State H.O.G. Rally
Rock, Roll, and Rumble in Macon, GA. Smack dab in the center of Georgia, Macon has oodles to
offer. Tasty Food, rich history, soulful music, and great riding are just a few of the things you'll
find in Macon. From Nu-Way Weiners to Lane Peaches you'll find tasty eats in Macon.
Interested in history? Try a visit to the Hay House, the Tubman Museum or the GA Sports Hall
of Fame. This is an excerpt from the rally website.
Corolla and I were recently entertained by the Rally Committee and some Macon officials. We
are getting more enthusiastic about the Rally.
Since we all like to eat, drink and be merry you will surely enjoy the “First Friday” celebration in downtown Macon. This is a big street party where two city blocks are closed off for a street party. In September HOG is the Honored Guest. Imagine a city throwing a street party for HOG.
There will be live music and food in several locations. Macon relaxes the liquor laws (just a bit)
for this street party from 4-10 pm. The parade of bikes will start at the Central City Park and ride
through Macon and end up at the street party. For the duration of the Rally there will be a
Trolley provided from the Host Hotel to several locations downtown as well as to the field event
location and parade staging area if you decide to let someone else drive. (The Trolley is free of
charge to registered Rally participants.)
The Host Hotel has secure parking for the Rally. There are guided rides everyday to places like
Andersonville POW Camp, Julliette for Fried Green Tomatoes, the Air and Space Museum in
Warner Robbins. There are several Museums in Macon: the GA Music Hall of Fame and the GA
Sports Hall of Fame and the Tubman Museum. Several historic homes like the Hay House are
available for tours. The Macon Dealer has events planned at their location as well. They will
have vendors like Drag Specialties on site, as well as food and music. There are several different
games planned this year, both with a bike and without.
Let’s Rock Roll and Rumble in Macon.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
A Word from Chris
May's Road Captains of the Month are Harry Coggins and Bobby Conway. Both lead two rides
in May. Putting together one ride is a challenge but two can really stretch you thin. Thanks to
both of you for all you are putting into the chapter.
Like a lot of you I'm finding myself riding my bike to work more than ever. Over the past few
weeks I've been on it two or three times a week. I'm not one who likes to get out in the hustle and
bustle of rush hour traffic on two wheels. Since gas has reached more than $3 a gallon it appears
to be the logical thing to do. If your out there in the traffic jungle I just want to remind you (like
I have to) it's much more dangerous than a weekend group ride. Always be on the defensive.
Keep tabs on every vehicle around you and remember most people are still asleep. They may be
running late and everyone else out there is just in their way. I ride like I have a big target on and
I feel that we do. You always hear "but I didn't see him or her". This is no excuse but it doesn't
really matter what is said if YOU are the one not seen. Ride like you're invisible. Give as much
room as you can and always remember that getting there in one piece is all that matters. This
isn't the type of article I like to write but every one of you is important to me and I really want to
see all of you out on that next weekend ride.
The July calendar is full so I sincerely expect there is a ride out there for everyone. I will also be
hosting a Sonic Social in Carrollton on the 12th at 7:30 p.m. As always contact me if you have
any question or comment. I look forward to seeing everyone out this next weekend.
See you on the next Ride,
Chris Robey

Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!

POTPOURRI
Carr Plans Ulysses Odyssey
Lithia Springs, GA -- June 8, 2007
Weekend motorcycle rides on rural mountain roads are usually filled with fun and packed with adventure. But how about a ride from Usuhuaia, Argentina, the southernmost tip of South America to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the northernmost tip of North America? Under the auspices of
Harley-Davidson of Atlanta, this not-for-profit event is being called the Ulysses Odyssey Project. Like Homer’s mythical Ulysses and his famous Odyssey, Chris Carr of HDA is planning such a trip in August of this year. Carr, piloting a Buell Ulysses XB12X motorcycle, said “The trip is designed to accomplish two purposes: to set a new world record for the distance and to strengthen the American Cancer Society. Beginning August 15, 2007, Carr will cover approximately 17,000 grueling miles and cross thirteen countries in South America, Central America, Mexico, and North America.
Asked why he chose the Buell XB12X, also known as the Buell Ulysses, he said “because it is that special kind of machine that’s equally at home on Alaska’s treacherous Dalton Highway as well as the hairpin mountain curves of Chile and Peru.” He explained that the Buell’s “increased suspension travel and great ground clearance will give me the performance needed for the trip no matter how challenging the roads become.” Buell Motors, owned by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company in Milwaukee, WI, is also excited about the project. Paul James, Director of Marketing Communications for Buell added “The high handlebars and neutrally centered foot pegs will offer Chris lots of leverage for negotiating curves and turns. It will also have a headlight grill, hand guards, and frame pucks to make it the most practical choice for the trip.” While extra fuel will be carried in special containers, the 4.4-gallon fuel tank will mean fewer stops for refueling. Finally, the Ulysses XB12X will be outfitted with special racks and packs, navigation and satellite communication systems and other accessories needed for the ride. Hot
Grips® is providing hand-warmer grips for the handlebars and Pirelli is providing special tires
needed for the many difficult roads, including dirt, gravel and crushed stone. Other sponsors
include Motorola/Iridium, Pacer Fuels, GPS Systems of North America, PIAA USA, Tourmaster, Drag Specialties, Garmin, Hapag-Lloyd, Scorpion Helmets, and the Latin American Motorcycle Association.
Eddie and Chris Houghton, owners of Harley-Davidson of Atlanta, said “we’re especially pleased to support a project that will aid the American Cancer Society as well as promote the quality and performance of the amazing Buell motorcycle.”
A website, www.twowheeladventures.com currently in development, is being established so
supporters and sponsors will be able to monitor Chris’ progress. After the trip, a documentary
DVD will be available as well as on-site visits and a book detailing the experience. For
additional information contact Larry Marquit, Director of Project Marketing and
Communications at mktljm@langate.gsu.edu

ROAD TRIP RECAP
We Had a Horrible Time at the Alabama H.O.G. Rally…Or Did We?
To recap the Alabama HOG rally is simple; it was not worth the money. The rally site was a
parking lot. There were no vendors to take our money. Attendance was low. The few events
offered were strung along an eight-lane highway making it difficult to get anywhere.
However, riding a Harley is not about the destination, but the journey.
The 140-mile ride along Route 78 to Birmingham was nice, the weather was mild, and the riding group was manageable…three people on two bikes! I would like to thank Virgil Eiesmann (Ike) for not only showing up, but for handling the middle Road Captain spot and riding sweep all at the same time! Even though the rally was lackluster, Fiona and I enjoyed hearing about Ike’s continuing 40+-year love affair with motorcycles, from his first Harley EL purchased from the junkyard for $5 (yes $5) to his new six-speed Road King. We enjoyed swapping stories with
another Atlanta Chapter member throughout the day. So in retrospect, the spirit of the Harley
Owners Group, and the state rally’s mission of meeting new people and seeing different places
came to fruition, making the day a success.
Erik Grandowski, Road Captain
The Almost Smith House Show Recap
Fun, Food, and Fellowship - what more could you ask for? Well perfect weather is a good one -
and we had just that on our ride to the Amicalola Falls SP Lodge Restaurant. My thanks go to all
the resilient folks that joined us. I hope no one missed out because they believed the TV weather
guys.
The original ride was planned for the Smith House. After a short discussion during a rest stop, it was agreed to change our destination to Amicalola. Purely by coincidence, Erik Grandowski and I had chosen the exact same route to Dahlonega on back-to-back days! During the slight diversion in our route, we came upon a short stretch of all weather (gravel) road. The GPS didn't portray this gravel, but I'm sure that our Head Road Captain has been messing with my GPS unit. (HIS scooter gravitates toward unpaved wilderness roads!) Only one person griped but did well
on the gravel. I'm glad she didn't fall down and go boom or SHE would have been hard to live
with for the NEXT 20 years! Fiona claims that since the ride had a rating of 4-pigs and seemed
like it started out more like a 2-pig event, I just threw in the gravel to upgrade the day!
After our buffet lunch with a view, a DNR ranger presented an enlightening lecture with live owls, a falcon, and a hawk. These are birds of prey that were injured (mostly hit by cars) and then turned over to DNR for care.
Life is short so get out here with your HOG family and enjoy! It's not the destination. It's the journey.
Andy Andresen, Road Captain
Mother's Day Ride Recap
The Mother's Day ride was originally scheduled for Dahlonega, but the group decided to head for Rome instead (much to Diana's disappointment). The weather conditions were perfect for riding without any threats of rain. We enjoyed a delicious Sunday brunch at the Harvest Moon Café and shared great stories practically about everything under the sun. I would like to thank Joyce Andresen, Don Atkins and Fiona Grandowski for showing up, and a special thanks to
Diana Bodden for riding sweep, on my first "official" ride as Road Captain. Of course the day
did not go without a hiccup. I forgot to call my mom!
