MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Thoughts from Tom
It's that time of year when we are in a transition period. You know. Mother Nature can't make up
her mind if she is ready to let go of winter and get on with the warming of spring or keep winter
around a little longer. We have some of those beautiful warm days when we can't wait to get out
and ride. Then it drops back to freezing temperatures. Either way I hope you are warming up the
tires and riding some.
You can tell that good riding weather is just around the corner because on a daily basis more
people are getting those bikes out and riding. Bike Week in Daytona is going on as I write this
article. Friends are planning trips and some are already taking some of those trips. I know of
some who are just back from a ride to the Florida Keys. Our Chapter continues to have Chapter
Rides every weekend. People are buying new bikes. There is even a new movie that tells the
story of some friends who take off on a road trip. If you have spent any time at all in the saddle of
a Harley you will laugh at some of their experiences because you have been there.
A word of warning though, as the weather warms and we ride more there is statistical increase of
the danger that is inherent in indulging our passion. Read your HOGTAILS, Enthusiast
magazines and HOGWASH. Pay particular attention to the articles on safety. Be careful out there
while you're having fun.
A couple of months ago I told you about Deputy Loren Lilly who was killed in an accident.
Deputy Ron Cross who was hit by an automobile while riding his Sheriff’s Department Harley.
Just last week Sgt. Waldrep, a Motor Officer with the Powder Springs Police Department, and
his wife were riding their personal Harley. They were hit and seriously injured. Both have been in
Atlanta Medical Center for treatment for injuries the received in the crash. Diana Bodden had a
friend that was killed in a motorcycle accident a few weeks back. So say a prayer for all of these
and the many others that have been either injured or killed while chasing their dreams and
making memories while riding a motorcycle.
There is a lot to look forward to in the coming year as we ride our Harley and indulge our
passion. I hope to see you out there.
Just remember Ride for Fun.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
A Word from Chris
February's Road Captain of the month is Bobby Conway. Bobby is getting off to an outstanding start. Not only did he participate in February, he led his ride as a Chapter Road Captain. Thanks for all your hard work Bobby.
This month's article is a little different from my usual. On February 9, a close friend of Diana
Bodden was killed in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta. The following weekend I went with
Diana to Richmond Virginia for the funeral.
"Sass", as her friends new her, was very passionate about motorcycles. She died doing what she
loved, riding. While in Virginia I met Sass's family. Her father, a Road Captain for the Fairfax
Virginia H.O.G. Chapter was on hand. There were several other members from the Fairfax
Chapter including several Road Captains and a former Director. The group of girlfriends that
Diana and Sass rode with was well represented. Because Sass had extensive military back ground
the Patriot Guard was there with American Flags as we exited the Chapel. We as H.O.G.
members, and motorcycle enthusiasts are part of one big family. The weekend that began as a
down, sad trip to Virginia ended with a feeling of pride and a reminder that this big family is
always there in the good and bad times.
Always remember to pay attention when you're out there enjoying your passion. Keep your eyes
open for any circumstance that could go bad. If you see a family member on the side of the road,
stop see if they need help. As a family we have to stick together. Thank you for your participation
in the Chapter. I'm always available for comments or suggestions.
See you on the next Ride.

SAFETY OFFICER'S REPORT
Safety Corner
I am a Lane Control Freak
In conjunction with some recent accidents, I proffer this article. Have you ever considered rider
lane control? The CONTROL of your lane is just as crucial as picking which lane you wish to
occupy!
While enjoying your cruise down the boulevard, do you consider an avenue of escape? Do you
make your visual presence known? Do you hide in other vehicles' blind spots? Is the road surface
along your slice of lane smooth sailing, or does it present ruts, bumps and gravel? These factors
are worth considering, but a more viable consideration would be the actual 'control of your lane'.
While negotiating a right turn at a stop sign or traffic light, you could assume that being to the far right of the lane would be a good position. Think about it. You create the perfect opportunity for
'soccer Mom' to squeeze into the lane with you. She wants to position that E-Tank behemoth at
the front of the jump line. I have nothing against the noble breed of soccer Mom, but they seem
to suffer the state of perpetual hurry up and get out of my way syndrome. If you give them an
inch, they will take the other 9 feet. And what if you change your mind and decide to continue
straight forward. What now? Or worse, what if they change their mind and decide to turn right?
Do they recall your presence? Can they see you in that blind spot? Or is the conversation on the
cell phone an excuse for a 'temporarily stupid' action?
This potentially catastrophic moment could change your lifestyle forever, or as is in the case of
our biker sister, Tanya "Sass" Parham, it could end your life forever.
The lane control principle applies to open roads also. When riding solo, just to the left of the
center of the lane is correct and safer. When in group formation, either the left third or the right
third of the lane is yours to utilize.
If you find situational awareness is uneasy with the traffic around you, change your environment.
Get ahead or drop back. Body language: I like to blink my brake lights; weave the lane slightly;
adjust the 9 mm on the hip a little. Find something legal to make the cage driver nervous and
liberate your space.
Remember that you ride a two wheeled, sleek, and a beautiful piece of machinery - and it has a
low profile compared with the cages around you. You have to make your presence known either
visually or audibly. Either ride into a spot where you can make eye contact with that driver or just
'accidentally' honk the horn. Loud pipes and radios may help, but don't count on it. If they turn
the head to see what the fuss is, they won't turn their wheel to make a mess of us.
Keep the shiny side up (ride safely).

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

way to use this valuable time than by going for a ride! Please join me on Sunday, April 15 for a

commemorate my first official ride as road captain! So please join me at the HDA pavilion at
10:30 a.m. We will leave at 11:00 a.m. for a casual (2-pig) ride and a late lunch.

AL State H.O.G. Rally Ride
This year's Alabama State H.O.G. Rally will be in Birmingham, from Thursday, May 31 to
Saturday, June 2. I am planning a ride to the rally, but I need a little help. Before I perform my
pre ride and research, I want to know if there is interest in either a one-day round-trip ride, or an
overnight stay. Visit the Alabama Rally web site at: www.alstatehogrally.com to find out more
about the rally. Please feel free to e-mail me at erik@grandowski.com or call me at

ROAD TRIP RECAP
International Café Recap
Well, the first annual ride to The International Café became, "The First Annual Polar Bear Ride to Gumbeaux." I would like to thank Rose, Kevin, and Andy for being there for my first ride as a
road captain. Because of the weather and the threat of snow, I made the decision to cut it short.
And wouldn't you know after enjoying some wonderful Cajun food the weather broke and it wasn't bad riding weather. I believe they continued on for a short ride after the official ride.
Keep your eyes on your e-mail. I may send an e-mail about an impromptu ride to the
International Café on an upcoming weekend...soon.
Bobby Conway, Road Captain
Market Street Recap
First of all I really want to thank everyone who came out. It was slightly cool and became a very
breezy day. We had 15 bikes and 16 people as we worked our way to Dalton. We had some good
food and most of all, some great fellowship. I would especially like to thank Andy Andresen for
riding sweep for me. I do want to disclose that for a few minutes I did lose more than half of our
group. We managed to get back together. Andy pointed the majority of us home by way of a
different route that I really liked better. For our next trip up there, I will utilize that route (more
twisties).
Thanks to you all and I look forward to riding with you again.

Fibber’s Ride Recap
The skies were clear and blue the temp was warming fast. The attendance was great, 12 members
and five guests. One of the guests came all the way from the Jacksonville, FL. Chapter. The ride
went smoothly and the food was as outstanding as always. Most could barely move when it was
time to head back. I wish to thank everyone for coming out and the other road captains, Gene and
Diana, who helped.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the next ride.
Chris Robey, Road Captain
Sweetheart Ride Recap
Thanks to everyone who joined me for my Sweetheart Ride to The Cheesecake Factory. We had
a good turnout for a February ride. The weather was great. It was good to see Rodney and Pat
Still, new members, along with some familiar faces I haven't seen in a while.
Hope to see more familiar faces more often and some new faces during this year's riding season
