MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Thoughts from Tom
Well it is good to be home and have the opportunity to get back on my Harley and ride. I do
appreciate y'all keeping the warm weather around so I can make up for some lost riding time.
Yes, I am finished with my time in Quantico, VA at the FBI National Academy. I actually
graduated with straight "A's" and the knee held up. I was able to complete the entire Yellow
Brick Road Run and Obstacle Course. Yes, I did all 10 miles of it and a little extra because I
missed a turnoff in the woods. For those not familiar with The Yellow Brick Road, it is the
course you see Jodie Foster running in the movie "Silence of the Lambs" and Bill Murray in the
movie "Stripes.” I enjoyed my time up there but I was ready to come home.
On a more somber note many of you may recognize the name Loren Lilly. Loren was a Cobb
County Sheriff’s Deputy. Loren was on his way to work on Sunday morning December 31 when
he died in an automobile accident. Loren and his wife of four months (Jamie) both rode Harleys.
Loren was a member of the Iron Pigs which is a motorcycle riding group made up of Public
Safety personnel. At Loren's funeral his best friend and a friend of mine named Robert Willard
spoke of how Loren used to give him a tough time about riding a Harley. Then one day Robert
got Loren to take his Harley out for a ride. About 30 minutes later Loren returned grinning from
ear to ear, tears streaming down his face, and bugs in his teeth saying "I gotta get me one of
these" and he did. More important than this however was that Loren accepted Christ as his
personal Lord and Savior and was baptized in August of 2006 just weeks before he and Jamie
were married. I believe Loren is in a better place maybe checking out good places to ride.
At Loren's funeral I saw a friend (Ron Cross) who also works for the Sheriffs Department. Ron
was on crutches and walking awkwardly. I learned that he had been in an accident while I was
out of town. Ron recently had attended the Harley-Davidson Police Motorcycle course and had
become certified to ride for the Sheriff’s Department. He was on his county Harley traveling
down New Macland Road near Richard Sailors Parkway when one of those inattentive drivers
tried to cross from the Publix parking lot to the new Home Depot. Ron was down with both legs
broken. Ron is recovering. In a short time he hopes to be back on a county bike. He plans to
purchase a Harley and be ready for summer riding.
I ask that you keep Jaime and the rest of Loren's family, both personal and professional, in your
thoughts and prayers as they try to understand why these things happen and begin to heal from
this tragedy. I also ask that you think of Ron and keep him in your prayers as he heals and moves
toward his goals.
I tell you of these incidents as a reminder that life is precious and it is short. A song by Tim
McGraw says "Live Like You Were Dying". Get out there and ride as much as you can. Make it
one of your New Years resolutions to appreciate life. And always remember, life is better on a
Harley.
Until I see you on the Road, Ride Safe and Ride for Fun.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
A Word from Chris
December's Road Captain of the month is Andy Andresen. Thanks Andy for the hard work.
I hope 2007 is starting the way everyone was hoping it would. I just returned from the New Years
Good Luck ride and if you weren't there, you missed a good ride, great food and even better
fellowship. I first want to thank all the Road Captains for making my job a breeze. As you read in
my other article, Diana Bodden is the Road Captain of the year. I don't want to leave out the other
Road Captains. All of the Road Captains contributed to a great year. Andy Andresen put in a lot
of time and led many great rides. Everyone knows how much Terri Varnum gives the chapter.
Harry Coggins was around a lot this year and led his first official ride. Gene Williams and John
Provost both added much to the chapter. David Trefzger and Steve Magel, even with their busy
schedules, managed to get a few great rides on the books. I also want to personally thank Tom
Sigerfoos (who missed most of 2006 due to shoulder surgery) for returning and adding his
experience and list of great rides. These people are (in my opinion) the backbone of the chapter.
They put together the rides that make the chapter what it is. "Ride and have fun," that is what it is
all about. In 2007 I want to help add to the number of members, and Road Captains and get the
existing members out to the events. My job as Head Road Captain is to give you the rides you
want, the rides that get you excited enough to come out and ride. Right now we have two more
Road Captains in the wings ready to finish the requirements and add to the great list of rides we
will be having. I am very excited about 2007 and I hope every member of this chapter is also. I
also had a few socials last year that were great success and I would like to see more of them this
year. If you would like to host a social in your area, you only need to be a member, and a Road
Captain. If you have an idea for a ride, or just have a comment please let me know. Send an
e-mail to thrasherfan22001@yahoo.com or call 770-367-1386. I want to hear what you think will make this a better chapter. That is our goal as officers and Road Captains.
Road Captain of the Year
As all of you know, I have been announcing a Road Captain of the month every month of 2006.
These were the Road Captains who went over and above their duties and really put in time to
make your chapter experience one to remember. The Road Captain who really went above and
beyond in 2006 was Diana Bodden. Diana logged 45 planed events. Who knows how many more
positive effects she had on the chapter. She was always there when needed and always promoted
the chapter and welcomed new members and guests. I hope all of you will thank her for her
contributions to the chapter in 2006.

SAFETY OFFICER'S REPORT
Safety Corner
Cold Weather Gremlins Can Bite You
Perhaps you've already learned this in a motorcycle safety course or on your own? But' it's worth
a short review.
AFTER you have gone thru the pre start checklist, there are some cold weather procedures which
can be important to adhere to for a safety conscious and contented rider.
Habits can get us in trouble but they can also divert trouble. When you start your scoot's engine,
where are your hands? They SHOULD be on BOTH levers!
The CLUTCH lever should always be pulled all the way against the grip even if the cute little
light says the transmission is in neutral. There's a chance that the little light may be less than
truthful with you. And if it has lied, where will you be in the post malfunction world? Maybe
you'll just be sitting there with a red face. But, perhaps you will be looking up from the ground
with an even brighter red face and in shock as your scoot comes to rest against your buddy's bike,
or your own brand-new pick-um-up-truck parked in your garage? Oops!
After the bike is started and when you're ready to put the world into motion, HOLD THE
FRONT BRAKE SOLIDLY before selecting first gear. EVEN with the clutch lever held in.
Why, you ask?
Most all Harleys have a wet clutch system, and in cold weather temperatures the fluids in that
scoot emulate the consistency of molasses – THICK molasses. As a matter of physics, the
flywheel is most likely stuck to the clutch and there's no guarantee that holding the clutch lever
all the way in will actually disengage the clutch and keep the bike from lurching forward. Of
course if that right hand was where it should be – brake applied HARD – then the bike would
merely bemoan its discontentment and remain safely in place.
RIDE gently for a few minutes using low torque and speed. Cold engine parts detest rough
treatment.
Once started, an engine needs more than a few minutes to vaporize and expel the water vapor
which has adhered to the internal metal parts. Otherwise, that water will accumulate in the oil.
This can eventually freeze and clog lines and do considerable damage due to lack of lubrication.
If you were to accidentally drink one or two pints of this mixture, it may not taste normal!
Remember – Freezing oil = Sludge = excessive wear and tear = $$$
Keep the dirty side down.

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

ROAD TRIP
Sweetheart Ride
Join me on Sunday, February 11, 2007 for my Sweetheart Ride. We will be going to The
Cheesecake Factory for a taste of something sweet. Make plans to join me whether it's on two
wheels or four. Weather is always uncertain during this time of the year (last year it snowed on
this ride). We will meet at the dealership at 12:30 P.M. and leave at 1:00 P.M...
P.S. Sweethearts are not required.
Terri Varnum, Road Captain
International Café Ride
My first ride as a Road Captain will have an "International" flare. On February 17 we will be
heading south to Hogansville to enjoy lunch at the International Café. You will have your choice
of Italian, Mexican, and good ole American food. (The desserts are awesome too!) If you enjoy
looking at antiques, downtown Hogansville has several shops that you might want to check out
while we are there. We will meet at HDA at 10:30 A.M. and leave at 11:00 A.M.
Hope to see you there!
Bobby Conway, Road Captain
Fibber's Ride
On February 24, I will be leading a ride to Fibber's Restaurant in Cedar Bluff, AL. I know the
weather in February can be very unpredictable but I have learned over the past few years that this
chapter is full of die-hard riders. We will meet at the dealership at 11:00 a.m. and we will leave
at 11:30 a.m. It will be about a two and a half hour ride with one planed stop, possibly more if
the weather dictates. If you haven't eaten at Fibber's, you're really missing out. I hope to see
everyone there.
Chris Robey, Road Captain
NC State H.O.G. Rally Ride
Yes, after a year or so mostly out of the saddle, I'm back and ready to ride! I'll be leading a ride

your latest HOG TALES for exciting details
The rally is April 26-28, so we will leave on Wednesday, April 25 to cover the approximate
600-mile distance. We'll spend Wednesday night in Greensboro, NC (hotel TBA in March
HOGWASH), and arrive at the rally late Thursday. Our ride will be entirely along exciting I-40,
but it is the quickest way to get there.
WHAT: NC State H.O.G. Rally
WHEN: April 25-28, 2007
MEETING LOCATION/TIME: Chevron, Hwy. 515, Blue Ridge, GA., 9:30 A.M.
DEPARTURE: Kick stands up at 10:00 A.M. sharp.
ALTERNATE MEETING LOCATION: Our hotel in Greensboro on Thursday A.M.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Memories of January 1
I don't know how much longer our New Years Day luck will hold but we'll take it as long as it's
here. As you know the weather was terrible leading up to New Years Day and then the clouds
parted, the rain stopped and we had beautiful weather for our ride to Buckner’s Restaurant in
Jackson for some fine home cooking. This is my fourth or fifth year leading this ride and every
year we've been lucky with the weather. We had 25 bikes, one truck and a total of 36 people that
made the ride. We traveled some nice country roads through several towns like Fairburn,
Fayetteville, Woolsey and Griffin. Everyone was able to stay together. Then we filled our bellies
at the table. I still think they need to add soft vanilla ice cream to go on top of that peach cobbler.
After the good food we saddled up, fueled up the bikes at the Flying J and our newest Road
Captain (Bobby Conway) led the ride back toward the dealership. Thanks go to all who came out.
Thanks go to all the Road Captains who assisted on this ride: Terri, Scott, Bobby, Diana, Chris,
and Andy. Also thanks go to Sassy, I mean Corolla and her Dr. Pepper for always being there
with the camera.
Tom Arnold, Road Captain
