MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Well 2006 has come and gone. What did you accomplish during the year? Did you get in all the
rides you wanted or did you save some for 2007? Was this a year of firsts for you? Did you do
anything new? What do you have planned for the New Year? The year 2006 was an interesting
year for me personally. After having graduated high school 31 years ago I finally started going to
college. Man how times have changed. It's not so much what I don't remember from those high
school days. It’s just trying to learn how to be a student. I don't remember high school classes,
studies, homework, projects and exams being like this. Then off I went to the FBI National
Academy for three months. I had to learn how to write research papers and such. Some of you
know exactly what I'm talking about. For those that don't, well-let me just say my brain is tired.
One of the things I realized while I was away from family and friends is that three months seems
like a very long time. Although I was able to come home a couple of times during the three
months, it was difficult being away. I tell you this because we just came through a special holiday
season and I want you to remember the military personnel who are serving away from home.
Most are gone a lot longer than three months.
Two of the men I’ve met at the FBINA both have sons serving in Iraq. Within the same week
both these guys were notified their sons had been injured and hospitalized. One son's Humvee
was blown up by an IED. The other son’s experience was undisclosed. Both sons are okay and
back with their units, back on patrol and back in danger. This is for us. This is for freedoms that
many of us take for granted every day. There are many more like Brent Riley and Joey Joiner
who put it on the line every day in some foreign land away from their families and friends for
months and even years at a time. Please take a moment every day to think of them and say a
prayer for their safety and their loved one’s support.
One of the great pleasures I’ve had while going to the college classes and to the FBINA has been meeting people who ride motorcycles. Many of them, well most of them are Harley riders and I
now have contacts from which I can learn of new and exciting places to ride all over the country
and in fact the world.
By the time you read this I will have my Fatboy back and will be putting more miles on it,
making new memories, riding to new destinations, and visiting some of my old favorites. I hope
you will be doing the same.
Come out and join us on some Chapter Rides. The memories you make and the memories we
will get from your participation will last a lifetime. Until I see you on the road, Ride for Fun!
Thank You!
I just want to take a few moments to thank everyone for all their help this past year. I want to
thank all the officers for all their tireless efforts and time they put in this year. I want to thank
Corolla for all the volunteer work she does and for always being there with her camera capturing
a part of our Chapter's history. I want to thank BK for the work he does in getting out the
HOGWASH and for volunteering his time to benefit the chapter. Thank you also to Terri for all
the work she does putting together the PowerPoint presentations for our monthly meetings. And
let me say a Big Thank You to all of our volunteers. Without you this Chapter wouldn't get very
much done. I will not even attempt to name the many volunteers that have helped this year. Many
of you stepped up to the challenge every time we asked. I along with the other officers appreciate
your help. You know who you are so take pride in what you helped this Chapter accomplish. I
know sometimes for the officers and the regular volunteers it may seem we are putting in a lot of
effort and time and there seems to be little participation. I want each one of you to know you and
your efforts are needed, are appreciated and we do make a difference. This Chapter will continue
on and we will "Ride and Have Fun.” If you're not part of that then you are missing out. I hope to see you soon!
Ride Safe, Ride for fun.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
The Road Captain of the Month is Harry Coggins. I want everybody to congratulate Harry on completing his Road Captain requirements and jumping in with both feet.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! WOW, this year has blown by. It does not seem like a year since the 2006
Good Luck Ride. Did you fulfill all your resolutions? Did you do everything you wanted to do in
2006? Did you ride as much as you wanted? I want to thank you all for supporting the chapter
and the support I have had this year. 2006 was a great year with lots of trips, great friends and
good times. My only regret was that we didn’t have more rides on the calendar (those of you who
know me know I would like to see at least one ride every weekend). Hopefully there will be
many more rides in 2007. It is going to be a great year. It looks like all the Road Captains will be
returning with the addition of one. Harry Coggins is our newest Road Captain. I’m already
planning several trips, Panama City, Sturgis and Ireland with my three favorite people. I hope
everyone gets out and rides as much as possible this year and I hope to see all of you at some of
the chapter events.
If you have any questions, comments or you’re looking for a route send me a message or give me
a ring. I’m always available. If you’re interested in becoming a Road Captain let me know. I’d like to see at least five more for 2007.

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

One pig - steady cruising rides of relatively short distance, easy on the throttle, few curves, etc.
Two pigs - a bit longer or have some curves but nothing too challenging.
Three pigs - the ride should be of moderate difficulty.
Four and five pigs - rides with a high number of curves, long distance, saddle time, road conditions, speed, and weather.

Good Luck Ride
Don’t forget about the Tommy Tyner/Good Luck Ride on New Years Day. We will meet at HDA

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Thank Your Ride Recap
It was a gorgeous day, a little cool but the sky was clear and the sun was out. We had 13 bikes
and 19 people along for the ride. We worked our way around the back roads down SR-70 across
the GA scenic route to Hwy. 16 up into Whitesburg for a brief stop and bathroom break. Then we
headed down Hwy. 5 into Lowell. We wound our way back up into Carrollton to Mama Stone’s
Country Buffet (not really a buffet but good food). I want to thank everyone who came out and
supported me on this ride and all the rides I lead this year. I also want to thank Harry and Belinda
for keeping things straight in the middle and Diana for riding sweep.

Signal Mountain III Ride Recap
At 7:30 a.m. a knock on my door signaled the arrival of "the Man in Black,” not a sliver of skin showing. Whoa it was going to be...(I thought, don't say that four letter word, c_ _ _.)
Unwrapping the mummy revealed Brother Bill ready for his hot biscuit pre ride meal. As I
entered the dining room up popped four young’ns, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! It was going to
be a GOOD day.
Bill and I ate and laughed with the family. We bundled up, fired 'em up and headed for HDA. We
arrived and were welcomed by more friends. John, Sonya, Noel, Nancy, Skeeter, Sybil, Chris,
Diane, Eric, Fiona, Kevin and many others. Thank you goes to Chris and Diane for "silently
volunteering" for the sweep role. We exited the dealership right on “Biker” time. Our route
carried us past some of our homes. I am sure we thought, “Boy an extra 40 minutes in that warm
bed would have been nice”. As we made our way around Cartersville we began to see the fall
color and natural wildlife...deer! They safely dashed between our group into the next pasture.
After a slight pause in our heart beat, we continued north.
As we entered Chickamauga Battlefield with its tree-capped roads solemnness came over
me...Color, Color, Color...WOW. The Master Painter created an awesome picture...5 mph has
it’s place in riding. Through the park, St. Elmo and around the northern slope of Lookout
Mountain we could see the river, Chattanooga and Signal Mountain in the distance...and hear
Fiona yelling: "Eric look straight ahead, I'll tell you how nice it is!"
Up Signal Mountain, past the Spaceship house, around the curves we went and onto Lunch!
WayCrazy's BBQ...boy were we way too crazy in there! Recently Big John had some cosmetic
dental work done. The doctor told him he would have a unique smile. Most of the locals must
have gone to the same doctor. They were whistlin' through their teeth. You had to be there!
Come along on the next ride and you'll find out. Our hosts were well prepared and served us a
hot Brunswick stew with all the fixin's.
Down the mountain we went via some great curves and spectacular fall color. At the base of
Signal one bike headed to Hotlanta. The other 10 bikes/12 folks headed northwest to Sequatchie
Valley, past Dunlap and off a country road toward Tracy City. We drove at a modest pace so we
could enjoy the valley vistas and green pastures. We arrived atop Monteagle Ridge with just
enough daylight to unpack the bikes and check in. The Best Western had a green space behind it
with a Pavilion, pond, cabins and amenities. After checking in, we were greeted by a warm
bonfire my wife started earlier. We had warm hands, buns and hearts! LIFE IS GOOD.
Many of us were still dealing with the WayCrazy's meal. I had to make sure I would see 51. I was
off to the Smokehouse Restaurant located next door to the BW. You see, I had been there before
and knew they had homemade fried pies and hand churned ice cream! My wife drove up with the
children so I enjoyed a family meal. I seized the opportunity to integrate my immediate family
with my extended biker family.
As I looked around the tables, the same solemnness I felt in Chickamauga came over me. It was
like I was in a time warp, looking in on my family. I don't know how long I gazed in admiration
and appreciation. All I can recall was my last thought: "FAMILY...it’s a gift. That's why they call it…the Present."
I planned to leave early Sunday morning, but I was quickly reminded by my 16 family members
how much warmer it would be at 10:00 a.m....At 10:00 a.m. it was KSU! We drove to the
University of the South in Sewanee to see the only Peace Memorial I know of. It is located on
Tennessee Ave. It was breathtaking, the Memorial, the Valley view and the prayers said for our
fallen heroes and those we hoped would never leave us.
After Sewanee, we headed south on 56 into Stevenson and stopped downtown at the Depot. Noel
schooled us on the railroad, while we basked in the warm sunshine. From 56 we continued to
Hwy. 117. We went into Valley Head then Mentone, AL to another Smoke House Restaurant.
WOW, their Brunswick stew was even better than WayCrazy's and Ruby had a salad in a Mason
jar. Join us on the next ride and we'll show you how to eat one of these. Smoke House is a great
new restaurant in Mentone. They are only open for lunch and dinner, Thursday through Sunday.
Check it out!
The Man in Black, Bill, along with his wife Ruby decided to extend the day and head North
across Lookout Mountain. The balance of the family headed south to Comosa via 100, onto
Rome via Hwy. 27S and into West Cobb by dusk.
