MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Well it seems like I haven't been on my Harley for months while I've been in Quantico, VA.
There have not been many free moments for riding anyway. The weather and the scenery around
here have been beautiful. I have heard my brother-in-law has been making good use of his time
with my bike. He’s put some miles on it. Just keeping it warmed up for me for when I get back.
Along with everything else I'm learning here at the FBI National Academy I have learned there
are a lot of Harley riders from all over the world. We have 28 international students who ride and
several riders from within the United States. We have had a good time telling stories about rides
in our respective states and hometowns. Some of us are talking about getting together in the
coming year and maybe meeting at some of the bike rallies.
What is great is the number of people you meet from around the world and the many open
invitations they extended to stay with them and their families. My Harley family has really grown
while I've been up here. But that's the way it is with Harley riders. We are all family and are
willing to open our doors and share with other Harley enthusiasts.
The holiday season is rapidly approaching along with the cooler weather. I hope you will all be
able to get together with family and friends around the holidays.
I was asked if I would serve one more year as Chapter Director and I have agreed to do so. With
that being said I will ask once again for volunteers to help carry part of the load in the coming
year. If you have an interest in a specific area please let me know. If you are willing to volunteer
on an as needed basis that is great too! I look forward to another year with you.
We will need your help. As the chapter gets ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas, remember
our charity the SHARE House. Please help with food and the Angle Tree.
Thanks again for a good year and get out there and ride when you can.
Ride Safe, Ride for fun.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
October’s Road Captain of the month is Diana Bodden. Make sure you thank her for all she does when you see her.
The year is rapidly coming to an end and the cold days have arrived. As I sit here writing this I
am preparing to head north to Signal Mountain on Steve Magel’s ride. The morning should be a
brisk 32 degrees (I’m so thankful for heated gloves and socks).
It’s been a great year, lots of rides and lots of events. I hope you made time to come out and ride with the chapter. December will be a busy month, not as many rides but busy none the less. Don’t forget about the Chapters Christmas social on December 9 and the SHARE House toy ride on the 16th. The Share House toy Ride is always fun and a great cause. It seems the more bikes we have
the happier the children are so come out, brave the elements, show your support and lets put
some big smiles on those kids’ faces. As always we are looking for more Road Captains if you
have any question please feel free to contact me at anytime. I hope you all have a very merry
Christmas and get all the Harley stuff you’re hoping for.

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

MEMBER COMMENT
Thanks Atlanta Chapter
I just wanted to write a quick article to thank everyone in our chapter for including Michelle and
myself. You are a very special group of people. Michelle and I have made some very good friends and hope to meet many more. So for those of you who haven’t come to any of the rides, or meetings lately, we look forward to meeting you, and please come see us.
The major reason I’m writing is to share a very special experience that I had. Michelle and I
purchased our bike in August of 2005. One of the first people I wanted to share this with was my
dad. Back in the ‘70’s I remembered him having an old Honda for a short period of time. I would imagine he got rid of it because of other responsibilities. I don’t remember him speaking of it a lot, but I always knew how much he appreciated a Harley-Davidson. I often heard him speaking
fondly of my grandfather and the fact he owned an Indian after he came home from WWII. My dad seemed too long o own an American-made bike. When I rode my bike to his house for the first time to show it off, he asked if he could ride it. He wanted to be able to say he had ridden a Harley once in his life. Well, of course you know he got to ride it. As the past year or so has progressed, he has spoken more and more about possibly buying a Harley. A few weeks ago I received a call from him. He asked me to hold on for a minute and then he asked me if I could tell him what I was hearing. When he fired up the 2005 Softail Deluxe that he bought, all I could say was “no doubt that’s a Harley”. Then I got the ultimate pleasure. This past weekend my dad and I rode from his house to The Bullock House and ate some pulley bones and fried green tomatoes. Then we rode over Pine Mountain and showed off our bikes to a good friend of his, who will probably soon be a Harley owner. I count myself very blessed for the relationship I have with my dad and the fact that God has allowed me to share so much time and fun with him. I also pray for many more rides with him. He’s already suggested we go to Sturgis next year. He’s also told me as soon as he gets more experience and feels more comfortable he wants to go on some chapter rides. He lives a short distance from where the new dealership will be and may even join the chapter there. Who knows? Thank you for allowing me to share this.

A Letter of Thanks
I wanted to thank all of you for this past two years. I have truly enjoyed getting to know people
and making new friends. It has been an honor and a privilege to be a road captain. Coming into
the club was hard at first, because I did not know one person and was joining on my own. Many
of the members made it easy to transition in and I am deeply grateful. I have enjoyed the rides
this year and am very thankful for all the people that helped me and for the member’s patience
and participation. It’s great to have people to ride with and hang out with. We have had some
awesome rides and good fun.
Last month one of our Road captains could not do his ride and left it out there, No one really had
time to take it over. I made a couple calls and was rescued. Kevin and Harry assisted me. They
made it a fun day. They helped with a route, eating place and the ride home. It was great to have
them with me and step up the way they did. (Kevin earned his road captain patch on this ride.)
Harry is completing his requirements this month. Yeah more road captains! It was cold and
windy and a little rainy, but later the day was beautiful
I look forward to many great rides, stories, and adventures next year. It would be great to see
some old friends and meet new ones in the coming year.
Happy Holidays,
Diana Bodden, Road Captain
ROAD TRIP
Shucker’s Social
On December 14, come out to Shucker’s in Villa Rica for a Thursday evening social. They have
great seafood and a great atmosphere. I decided to move the social inside for the next couple of
months and I’m hoping Villa Rica is a more central location. If you have any questions or need
directions e-mail me or give me a ring. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Asheville Fall Leaf Ride Recap
On a cold Friday morn, a group of intrepid travelers gathered at the pavilion for an excursion into
the mountains of western North Carolina. An 8-hour ride revealed some of what we would see
and feel throughout our weekend as we traversed the north Georgia, western Tennessee, and very
western North Carolina!
We stopped for lunch at the River’s Edge Restaurant in the Nantahala Gorge. We watched as
“crazy” people came kayaking and rafting down the river in the frigid waters. I wonder what they
thought when they saw the “crazy” people passing by on motorcycles in 40 degree weather? We
thawed out in Arden NC as we enjoyed dinner at the Sagebrush Steakhouse and discussed our agenda. It was there that a few riders “unwrapped” some 6-8 layers and we actually saw their frozen smiles!
It was 32 degrees on Saturday morning, as we met at the Plaza Restaurant in Fletcher. We
regrouped, layered up, and headed north on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The temperature on Mount
Mitchell was about minus 80 degrees – well it seemed like it. The icicles did melt from our
eyebrows. As we progressed northward on the most scenic ribbon of asphalt in the country it
soon became perfect for riding. We were amazed at the colors, especially around the Craggy
Gardens and Grandfather Mountain areas.
Apparently the entire populations of Asheville and Charlotte thought things were amazing. The
traffic moved at a snail’s pace. That’s a good thing because everyone was able to ride more
slowly and gawk at the beauty of the fall colors. Lunch was a little hard to acquire, since the
traffic into Blowing Rock was backed up to somewhere in South Carolina. Eventually we found
our way into town about 3:05 p.m. Of course, most restaurants closed at 3:00 p.m. and reopened
for dinner at 5:00 p.m. We found a little Mexican Restaurant just down the street and a great
lunch was consumed with gusto. The ride back to the hotels was via the old detour of US 221, a
very twisty and scenic ride just below the parkway.
Here’s a little sidebar for you detail people. Back in the 30’s, the owners of Grandfather Mountain didn’t want the Blue Ridge Parkway construction ripping up the forested slopes at the base of the mountain. They blocked the construction until the Linn Cove Viaduct was achieved. So, for many moons the traffic was routed off the Blue Ridge Parkway and sent along the narrow
US 221 two-lane for a distance of about 14 miles. It took 52 years to fill in this ‘missing link’ of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This was no easy task in a rugged and rocky terrain! It was opened in 1987 at a cost of $9,000,000.
On Sunday, we once again found the temperature to be around 34 degrees and it made for a brisk,
eye-opening start. NC Highway 9 south from Black Mountain is another twisty road. It took us
through Bat Cave, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The leaves were equally as impressive as those
on the Blue Ridge Parkway. As we gained the Foothills Parkway in South Carolina, green crept
into the landscape and the pace quickened and we searched for the day’s lunch stop, which was
to be Aunt Sue’s Country Corner. Everyone looked as though a nap under the mimosa trees
would be in order but we wound our way toward Toccoa and Atlanta and home before dark. We
needed to rejuvenate and map another trip to see the wonders of the earth as soon as possible.
Thanks to Chris and Diana for their support and to the gallant riders who participated to make
this a memorable experience.
Andy Andresen, Road Captain
