social events to expand horizons, fulfill dreams, and create lifelong memories through personal relationships forged in iron and steel.
MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
As the cooler weather starts to take over and the riding season winds down for some I hope you
are able to get in some special rides and create memories that will last a lifetime. I mentioned in
last month’s article Terri and I took a ride that began in Gettysburg National Park. We traveled
down Skyline drive and all of the Blue Ridge Parkway until we neared Maggie Valley. The
parkway was closed there by a rockslide. One of the best places to stop on the Blue Ridge
Parkway (in my opinion) is Doughton Park at mile marker 240. The Bluffs Lodge has a
spectacular view of meadows and mountains, an outdoor fire pit for making s’mores, and nightly
story time with a local Park Ranger. The Bluffs Lodge Coffee House is across the street. It has
the best home cooking you will find anywhere. Don’t miss out on the pan-fried chicken or the
blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. One of the waitresses has been working there for more
than 50 years. Her husband comes by in the evenings after working their farm. In order to spend
more time with his wife he hangs around the restaurant and fills customers drink glasses. They
met at the restaurant 52 years ago while he was working to build the parkway. You meet some
really special people while riding.
As we enter some of the best riding weather, it is assuredly a difficult time for me. I have had to
miss out on two of my greatest loves and passions. While away at the FBI National Academy I
have missed out on deer hunting season and riding my Harley. You realize how much you miss
things when they are not available to you. However, my missing out on riding has provided an
opportunity for someone else. I have loaned my Harley to my brother-in-law Kevin and my
nephew Stephen so they can enjoy the riding experience. The hard part for them will be returning
the bike. They will be Harley owners in the future. Sharing the Harley-Davidson riding
experience with someone else is an experience unto itself.
I hope you have an opportunity to get out and ride, enjoy the beautiful fall weather, and the
changing of the leaves.
L.E.D. Lights
I was recently asked what they laws were pertaining to the L.E.D. lights that are now being
installed on motorcycles. ANY BLUE lights on a motorcycle ARE against the law! For more
information you can go to the Georgia Department of Public Safety Website.
(http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/GaCode/?title=40&chapter=8§ion=90)40-8-90. (a)(1) Except
as provided in this paragraph and subsection (b) of this Code section, it shall be unlawful for any
person, firm, or a corporation to operate any motor vehicle equipped with or containing a device
capable of producing any blue lights, whether flashing, blinking, revolving, or stationary. Any
person who violates paragraph (1) of this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
Dyno Drags
I want to thank those of you who came out and volunteered your time on Saturday, for the Dyno
Drags. (Rene’ Durham, BK Ellis, Terri and Brad Varnum, Gene Bachman, John Morgan, Gary
Griffin, Larry Mahle, Jim Gang, and Tandy and Beth Barrett, Barry Millsap, Ike Eisenman, Steve
Hart and son and me) I know there were others as well. Your Chapter support is always
appreciated!
Harley-Davidson of Atlanta won overall.

SECRETARY/TREASURER'S REPORT
It soon will be Thanksgiving and then Christmas, where does all the time go. I hope everyone
will have a great Holiday Season. We can help those less fortunate than we by bringing in can
goods and nonperishable for Thanksgiving. In December the chapter will have an Angel Tree for
the moms and kids from the SHARE House in Douglas County. Please do all you can and all
gifts to SHARE House are tax deductible.
At our November chapter meeting we will celebrate Thanksgiving. Please bring a “Family Size” covered dish. Include food in the dish. The chapter will furnish the turkey, ham and drinks. I hope all can attend. Just let me know what you would like to bring.
I would like to thank everyone who volunteered for the HOTLANA Dyno Drags. We all had a
great time.
Congratulations to Henry Robertson on completing the Covered Bridge Tour and receiving his
patch.
Please ride safe and responsible.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
September’s Road Captain of the month is Andy Andresen. Thanks Andy for all the effort you put into the chapter.
Wow this year has flown by and the New Year is fast approaching. I have done a lot of rides this
year both with the chapter and with other friends. I have gone on more than a few trips. With
each one, I appreciate more and more the freedom riding gives me. I realize that each one of us
has different goals in our lives. Sometimes it takes a lot to get there. If riding is your passion then
you need to make time for it. I know a lot of people, both HOG members and non members that
always talk about riding but never seem to find the time. Life is not all about work. Everyone
needs time to release the anxieties that come with the everyday grind. For me riding is like a
therapy session that keeps me grounded. A new year is fast approaching and it’s time for those
New Years resolutions. Mine resolution is to finally go to Sturgis, SD and see all the sites I can
see in one week. I hope yours is to ride as much as you can. Come out and see your HOG
brothers and sisters. Come get your therapy. It will make me feel better. If the rides this year did
not fit your schedule, let me know. If you didn’t like the rides offered this year, let me know. I’m here for each and every one of you. I’m always accessible, at meetings, rides, phone or e-mail. Let me know. WE WANT YOU! It’s time to start recruiting new road captains. I hope to have
the good base group we had this year. It is always good to have new people with new ideas and
new rides. Let any one of us officers know of your interest. I’m not sure if I’m going to do a class this time or do several small dinner meetings or something like that. I will wait to see who is interested and their schedules. So to sum it all up, ride a lot and become a Road Captain.

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

ROAD TRIP
Signal Mountain III - Overnighter Update
Friends, as promised, the Signal Mountain III will be an OVERNIGHTER this year. We will do
Signal Mountain, the Valley through Dunlap and Tracy City and end the evening in Monteagle,
TN. There are twenty nonsmoking and five smoking rooms on hold at the Best Western
Smokehouse Lodge in Monteagle, TN. The hotel is located 300 yards West of I-24 at Exit #134,
about two hours from Atlanta. Each room has two Queen beds. The rate is $79.95 plus tax per
night. The lodge has a good BBQ/Ham/Turkey slicing buffet and a pavilion in the back with
green space and a fire pit. We can use as a gathering place. For those wanting something upscale,
I know of a chef owned place about 7 miles away.
The rooms will be held until 10-27 under HDA-HOG. Call the hotel. Make your reservation with
a credit card and you're good to go.
Call 931.924.2091 . . . Steve Martin, Group Sales, he handled the reservations.
Please pass the word at the upcoming Chapter meeting on Thursday, October 19. You may
contact me at 678.427.2429 or steve.magel@shawinc.com with any questions.
(Meet: 8:30 a.m. - HDA Pavilion - Leave: 9:00 a.m. - 4-pigs)
See you then!

Thank You Ride
On November 18, I will be doing a ride and in the spirit of November and Thanksgiving. I’m
calling it the “Thank You Ride.” We will meet at the dealership at 11:30 a.m. and leave at 12:00 P.M. I don’t have all the details right now but I want to thank all chapter members for
supporting the chapter and the Road Captains for all their hard work. As soon as I have all the
details together, I will send them out by E-mail. If B.K doesn’t have your E-mail address make
sure you get it to him so you can get any changes or updates from the chapter throughout the
month.

Hey everyone, come join Belinda and I on a ride back in time (1850’s) to Westville, in Lumpkin
county GA. We will stop at Providence Canyon, then on to Westville. We will have lunch at
Michelle’s Restaurant. The ride is a long easy 4-pig ride. There are some curves, red lights and
road work. Nothing bad, but it’s there. This is my first ride as road captain. Join the fun and
watch me mess up “NOT.” See you there Saturday, November 11. Meet at the HDA pavilion at
9:00 a.m. and leave at 9:30 a.m. If you need more info give me a call 770-834-9719.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
GA State Rally Jekyll Island Recap
Those of you who rode down to Jekyll Island on Thursday, September the 7 you know it was a
very wet ride. I usually don’t remember all the names of the people on my rides but this one will
always stand out. Lori, Diana and I left my house at 7:00 a.m. We stopped in Whitesburg to meet
up with Kim and Joel Green. Then we all headed for I-75 and the Flying J at exit 201. On the
way we stopped at a car wash to put on our rain suits because some light sprinkles had started.
We arrived at the Flying J around 9:30 a.m. little late but in front of the group coming from
HDA. There waiting on us was Andy and Joyce Andresen and a guest Charles Sloka. Not long
after we arrived, the group from HDA arrived. Scott Vandiver led the group with his wife
Corolla. In the group were Nancy Hardeman, Noel Dillard, John Morgan, Heather Knorr, Bill
Berry, Steve Magel and our fearless leader Tom Arnold. We headed out around 10:30 a.m. and
headed south on I-75. Not long after we got on the road the rain started. It wasn’t heavy. It wasn’t the way I wanted to start the trip. After about 60 miles Andy (who was riding sweep) came flying up beside me to let me know someone had a problem. We pulled over at the next exit to find out.
Diana’s bike had problems and she was waiting on HD of Macon to pick it up. After I talked to
her and made sure she was all right we headed out again. The rain was light but steady to Perry,
GA where we got off the interstate and hit the back roads. As we worked our way around and
onto US-341 the rain started getting heavier, stopped and got heavier again. By the time we
reached Eastman, GA I could hardly see. We gassed up and headed to the local Pizza Hut to eat
and wait for the rain to slow. After a good lunch we headed out in the rain once again. It was a
constant rain with no end in sight. As we went along the rain constantly got heavier and heavier
(monsoon comes to mind). Finally in Hazelhurst, GA we lucked up and found a gas station with
a large front overhang where we could all get our bikes out of the “monsoon” The rain was
sideways and the parking lot was a river. The vehicles coming down the road were causing “tidal
waves” on anyone near. After about an hour the rain lightened up and we decided to press on. It
didn’t take long to catch up with the rain. We road until none of us could see anything but the
taillights in front of us. We pulled over in Baxley, GA and had a meeting. After hearing about
hail that was on the way we decided that we would press on and keep the group as tight as we
could. I have ridden in a lot of rain but nothing like this. It was a major storm that was more like
a hurricane than anything I have ever seen. I could barely see and everyone else was following
my flashers. We finally drove through the other side of the rain and headed for Jekyll. We arrived
at the host hotel at around 6:30 p.m. It was a hard ride but we all got our Water Wing’s Patch.
After checking in and cleaning up we all met for the Opening Ceremonies at the Buccaneer
Beach Resort (host hotels). It was a great party. There was a lot of conversation about the day
with other people who had braved the rain to get to the rally. “Lemming” was a very popular
word of the day. Friday was filled with rides and meeting up with new and old friends. Friday
evening’s party was held on the deck at the Buccaneer with a live band (who did a great job).
Once again lots of new and old friends. At 1:30am my friend and true dedicated HOG member
Diana arrived in her truck with her backup bike (“the Fatboy”) in tow. Saturday morning was a little rough but part of the group meet up and the local gas station and headed over to Golden
Isles HD in Brunswick to watch a jet bike melt a Yamaha, nothing like seeing hot flames on cold
steel. We all headed back to the Island for the biker games. The night went from the Low
Country Boil to the Closing Ceremonies to some of the group gathering out side at the hotel and
reflecting on the weekend. I hope everyone that went had a great time, if you didn’t go ask some
of the people mentioned here about the adventure.

Sonic Social Recap
For those of you who missed the Sonic Social on October 5, I hope you will try and make the
next one. There were seven of us at the Sonic in Carrollton. It was a great time and great food.
The manager was thrilled to have us and let us know that Thursday was Bike Night and anyone
on a bike got 10% off their order. I plan on doing more Socials at the Sonic in Carrollton and
possibly in other areas. Keep your eyes on the Calendar.
