Closed events are those chapter events which are open to chapter members and one guest per member.
Member events are events that are open only to H.O.G. members.
Open events are those chapter events which are open to chapter members, national H.O.G. members and other guests as desired.
If you are interested in becoming a H.O.G. member, contact
Rene' Durham, or call 770-944-1340
MISSION STATEMENT
Atlanta Chapter provides members with exciting, safe, organized riding activities and
social events to expand horizons, fulfill dreams, and create lifelong memories through personal relationships forged in iron and steel.
MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER'S REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider's Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider's Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider's Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Rider's Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Well it’s been hot and dry. Heat records were set across the entire country in July. But it has been dry and the motorcycles have been on the roads. In the past couple of weeks you could just about guarantee that if you were still out riding in the late afternoon you would most likely get wet in one of the summer storms. But then that gave you a reason to clean the bike.
Hopefully last month’s newsletter answered some questions regarding the relationship and status between the Dealership and the Chapter.
The Chapter has been very busy. Along with our monthly meetings there was an open house at
the dealership. We had the Riders Edge reunion. Some of our members volunteered to help there
with food preparation and the demo rides. Chapter volunteers led more than 100 demo rides.
We’ve had several excellent Chapter Rides. This past weekend we had the Chapter picnic.
Hopefully you have been able to participate in some of these events.
I will say I was somewhat disappointed with our turnout for the Chapter picnic. First off several people worked hard to organize the picnic. Approximately 70 RSVP’d that they would attend. We bought enough food for 100 people. Plus, people brought stuff. The total cost to the Chapter was approximately $1000.00 for the food, drinks, and the pavilion rental. On Sunday the day of the event the sun was out. It was dry and only 36 people showed up. But we who were there had fun and ate well. We also were able to see a few members we haven’t seen in awhile. Sorry a lot of you missed it.
Let me say a very big “THANK YOU” to all those who do participate and especially those who volunteer. I hope you’re having fun. If not let me know what we can do to make it better.
Please make the effort to come out to a meeting, a ride, or one of the social events. We do have an Ice Cream Social coming up along with many more great rides.
Once again we are busy and we’re having fun. We look forward to seeing you join us.
Until then,
Tom Arnold, Director Atlanta Chapter

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
July’s Road Captain of the Month is Andy Andresen. Thanks again for all your hard work.
This month’s article will be short and sweet (my mind is a blank). Have you been to a chapter event lately? If not why not? Come join us for a ride, meeting or any other event the chapter puts together. This is your chapter. The officers and Road Captains are working hard to give you the kind of rides and events you want. I hope to see everyone at the state rally in Jekyll Island. If you have any comments or suggestions feel free to contact one of the officers or myself. (My phone 770-367-1386 or e-mail thrasherfan22001@yahoo.com.)

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

Pig Ride Legend
One pig - steady cruising rides of relatively short distance, easy on the throttle, few curves, etc.
Two pigs - a bit longer or have some curves but nothing too challenging.
Three pigs - the ride should be of moderate difficulty.
Four and five pigs - rides with a high number of curves, long distance, saddle time, road conditions, speed, and weather.

ROAD TRIP
GA State H.O.G. Rally
On September 7, I will be leading a chapter ride to the 2006 GA State H.O.G. Rally on Jekyll
Island. Scott Vandiver will meet a group at the dealership at 8:00 a.m. and will leave at 8:30 a.m. He will lead that group to the Flying J Truck Stop at Hwy-36 (exit 201) off I-75 south. I will be at the Flying J to sign in anyone wanting to meet there. Meet time for the Flying J will be 9:15 a.m. leave at 9:45 a.m.
If you are familiar with Buckner’s, the Flying J is on the same road. If you are not, go south on I-75 to exit 201. Turn right at the end of the exit. Take the 1st right, which will be Bucksnort Road. The Flying J will be on the left.
The ride from the Flying J will go down I-75 south to US-341 in Perry, GA. We will follow
US-341 into Brunswick and then pick up SR-520 into Jekyll Island and to the host hotel.
The ride should take about 6 hours. This will include some rest stops and a stop for lunch.
Thursday’s Rally registration is open until 6:00 p.m. with the Kick Start Party starting at 6:00 p.m. We should be there in plenty of time to get registered and cleaned up for the party.
I hope to see all of you there. This year’s rally should be a blast with lots to see and do.
Chris Robey, Road Captain
Copperhead Lodge Ride
Saturday, September 2, I will lead a ride to the Copperhead Lodge near Blairsville, GA. This is a motorcycle campground and resort that is just opening. . We will meet at the dealership at 12:30
p.m. and plan to leave at 1:00 p.m. We will stop for a bite to eat on the way up. We probably will
not eat until around 3:00 p.m. or so. We will get there in time for people to look around before
the events start.
For the Labor Day weekend they have a lot of festivities planned with several live bands. The
first concert starts at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. They will have events all weekend. They are supposed to have tours of the property because they also have plans to sell lots for cabins.
The campground is located about 12 miles north of Blue Ridge and about 8 miles south of
Blairsville for those who want to try and find a hotel or other accommodations close by instead
of riding back that night. The official Chapter Ride will end once we arrive at the campground.
You’re on your own as far as places to stay. This will be a 5-pig ride as we will ride back roads through the mountains with some twisties. Any questions give me a call or check their website (www.copperheadlodge.com). See you there!
Tom Arnold, Road Captain
It’s that time of year again!
Please mark your calendars and make plans to join me on Sunday, October 1, 2006 for the 15th

is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Opening Ceremony/Safety Briefing is at 12:30 p.m. and the Ride
(Peachtree Thunder Parade) leaves at 1:00 p.m.
The cost is:
$35.00 1 ride entry, 1 lunch from Buffalo’s Café, 1 ride pin
$75.00 1 ride entry, 1 lunch from Buffalo’s Café, 1 ride pin, 1 ride t-shirt
$150.00 2 ride entries, 2 lunches from Buffalo’s Café, 2 ride pins, 2 ride t-shirts
There are additional levels of participation. For more information please feel free to contact me at terrin2hd@bellsouth.net or 770-947-6839.
I hope to see you there!
Terri Varnum, Road Captain
Asheville, NC Overnighter
Friday, October 13, we will meet at Atlanta Harley-Davidson for a three-day excursion.
Asheville, NC is the target for this 4-pig ride. Yes, there may be a few twisties - but nothing you can’t handle! Yes, it is a long, long, long way to Asheville – but nothing you can’t handle! Yes, we’ll have to eat several times - but…well, you get the picture!
This will NOT be an Iron Butt marathon. There will be ample stops geared too participant’s desires. After all – our motto is “Ride and have Fun,” not “Run Hard and Break your Buns!”
Join your extended family for this scenic tour. Gaze at the gory details in the next issue of this international publication.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Impromptu Ride Recap
My July impromptu ride started cloudy and overcast with a 90% chance of rain and a 40%
chance of rain at the destination I had chosen, the Catfish Cabin in Albertville, AL. I had nine
people ready to brave whatever was in front of us. We headed west. The skies cleared and the sun
revealed itself. As we got closer to Albertville the sky started to get dark and the air smelled wet. We stopped in Crossville, AL and decided to head south and try to avoid the oncoming storm.
We didn’t get far before the rain caught us, so we thought. After stopping and suiting up the rain stopped and it was a dry ride to Gadsden, Al. We stopped and ate at a little home cooking
restaurant called Poor House. After heading home the ride was dry until Cedartown where the
bottom fell out. All in all it was a great ride. Thanks to everyone for coming out and also thanks
to Harry and Andy for the help.
