MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Riders Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Everyone knows that motorcycle riders, not just Harley riders, are an involved group of people.
We do seem to lead the way and turnout the biggest numbers. We as motorcycle riders are always
getting involved in charity rides, participating in Fund Raisers, donating our money, volunteering
our time to one cause after another. The summer is full of various motorcycle rallies and events
where some organization or charity will benefit from us being there. The great thing is they
benefit and we help out by doing what we love, riding and having fun. The State HOG Rallies,
Thunder Beach, Myrtle Beach, Sturgis, Rides for MDA, MOD, are just a few of these events.
Most of you know about these types of events but this month I want to focus on a couple of
specific areas where you/we can help others.
At the last two Chapter Meetings I mentioned a group called the Patriot Guard. Their website is
(www.PatriotGuard.org). This is an organization of bikers that came together last year in
response to the actions of a religious organization in Topeka, Kansas who would show up at the
funerals of soldiers who had been killed in the war in Iraq. These self proclaimed religious
people would protest at the funeral of the soldier claiming it was God's will that the soldier was
dead. You just have to go to the website to see some of the signs that these protesters would hold
up at the funeral. It is unbelievable! The Patriot Guard was established and they would ride to the
funerals. They would park in front of the protesters and hold up American flags. This enabled the
family and friends to pass the protestors without noticing the derogatory signs. There has recently
been a lot of media attention given to the actions of the protesters. President Bush signed a new
law that makes it a crime for protesters at military funerals to approach within so many feet of the
funeral service. The father of a soldier recently killed in battle has filed a lawsuit against this
religious group. As I said the Patriot Guard was organized to assist at these funerals but since
then their efforts and assistance has been requested at many military actions. The Patriot Guard
has escorted several military units returning home to their home base or National Guard Armory.
The group has participated in many parades welcoming home the soldiers. This year the Patriot
Guard will be very involved in the Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Check out the website to
learn more. The Patriot Guard is free to join. Many of you served in the military, had a family
member who has, or know someone who serves or has served. Whether you agree with this war
or any war for that matter is not what is important here. What is important is that we support the
very people who daily guarantee us a free society. The soldiers volunteer for a cause just like we
do when we attend many motorcycle events to support charities. And just like those charities our
military men and women need our support. Please take the time to check out the Patriot Guard
website, become informed and involved. I think it would be great if we as a Chapter showed a
strong support for this organization and our military by signing up. Then when we show up at
events be sure to have a Chapter flag or Chapter patch to show who you're with.
The other area I want to direct your attention is an Organ Donation program. While this is not
exactly a fun topic to talk about, it is an important one. Once again it is about how we can help
others. Yes many of you know I have a personal interest in this since Brad is a recipient of a
kidney transplant. Brad has a rare blood type. His grandmother was the only match. She donated
for Brad. I also have a co-worker who is awaiting a kidney transplant. He uses his lunch break
every day to go for dialysis while he awaits a kidney donation. Many of you may know someone
who is the recipient of a transplant or someone who made a donation. As a police officer
working in a close relationship with our Medical Examiners Office, I have learned one thing
about organ donation. Most people don't know much about it. For instance, I thought just because
I had the Organ Donor designation on my driver’s license my organs would be donated upon my
death. This is not the case. There is much more to it than that. Take the time to visit the
following website (www.lifelinkfound.org) go to the section of Georgia and learn more. Then
you can make an informed decision.
I am not trying to push my own opinions or beliefs on you when it comes to issues like these but
I do want you to know about them. Be informed and then make your own decisions. Thanks for
taking the time!
May Chapter Meeting
What a great meeting we had in May. Although the turnout was low, we had a great meeting in
celebration of Memorial Day. Thanks go to all the veterans who were in attendance. Thanks go to
those who provided pictures. Thanks go to B.K. Ellis and Scott Vandiver for their video
presentations. A Big Thank You goes out to Terri Varnum for all the hours of work and effort
she put into preparing the Power Point presentation that had many military photos and military
videos that she put to music. It was awesome! At this meeting we were also blessed with an
unexpected visitor. Our member Gene Bachman's son Gene is currently serving in Iraq. He was
home on a two-week leave and was able to attend the meeting. We had several pictures of Gene
and he was able to give us a commentary on the pictures as well as give us some insight from a
first hand look at what is going on over there. We wish Gene well, thank him for his service to
our country, and pray for his safe and speedy return home. The chapter presented Gene and his
wife a monetary gift for them enjoy the weekend somewhere before he returned to Iraq the
following Tuesday. You should have been there!
I mentioned in an earlier newsletter that we are going to try and come up with a theme for our
meetings. I'm not sure how we will top May's meeting where we recognized Memorial Day but
we have July 4 coming up and we will see what we can come up with. If you have ideas,
suggestions, or would like to help put something together then let us know. Hope to see you
there.
Stone Mountain HOG Chapter
On Memorial Day the Stone Mountain HOG Chapter lost one of their members on a ride. Their
Chapter was participating in a ride with more than 900 bikes. George Walker was assisting with
the ride as a Ride Captain when another rider pulled into his path and an accident occurred.
George was killed in the accident. Please keep George's family and the Stone Mountain HOG
family in your thoughts and prayers.
Hope to see you soon,

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
Road Captain of the Month
May’s Road Captain of the month is Terri Varnum. When you see Terri, thank her for all the
hard work she does for the Chapter.
Are You Participating?
Do you go on the rides or attend the meetings? We are half way through the year and there have
been a lot of good rides so far this year. I have seen a lot of new faces and quite a few familiar
faces participating with the chapter. If you’re new or have not been on a chapter ride in a while,
“Where Are You?” Riding is what all of us joined H.O.G. to begin with. There are a wide variety
of rides on the calendar. I hope something for everyone. If you disagree, let me know. If you
have any questions, ask. If you would like to be a Road Captain, by all means please let me
know. The chapter is here for you. The Road Captains put the rides together for you. The rest of
the year is going to be great; the more members who participate will make it even better. I don’t
want to be looking around at the Christmas party in December wondering who all these people
are (LOL). All the road Captains have had great turn outs at all the rides. But everyone joined
H.O.G. and the Chapter for a reason. Come to a ride or meeting the more the merrier. I hope to
see every one of you soon.

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

ROAD TRIP
Marietta / Cobb Museum of Art Ride
On Saturday, July 8, 2006 we will meet at HDA at 4:15 p.m. and leave at 4:45 p.m. Our
destination will be an exhibit of photographic art depicting the contrasts between the professional
careers and the avocations of women who ride Harleys. The price of admission will be $5.00 for
a nonmember of the museum. The ride should be very simple and we should be able to find
adequate parking adjacent to the museum. The museum is located just off the square in the city
of Marietta.
The ride will officially end once we arrive at the Museum. Once we have all had enough time to
view the exhibit we will again convene and make our unofficial way to a dinner spot for some
eats. The photography is the work of Hank Somma and he advises that several of the women
studied will be in attendance. This should be a fun evening so make plans now to join us.
John C. Provost, Road Captain
De Soto Caverns Ride
On July 15, I will lead a ride to De Soto Caverns in Alabama. This is a nice ride with lots of
beautiful scenery. We will stop for lunch on the way and then tour the caverns. This is a great
experience. The caverns have several attractions in addition to the caves themselves. Come join
the ride.
Diana Bodden, Road Captain
Impromptu Ride
On July 22, I’m going to lead an Impromptu Ride. I am still looking at a couple of places to go.
We will meet at the pavilion at 10:00 a.m. and leave at 10:30 a.m. Come with a full tank of gas.
I’m planning on riding most of the day and we will be eating lunch somewhere (LOL). Keep an
eye on you e-mail I will give more details as I put the ride together.

ROAD TRIP RECAP
Ride to Live Recap
We met early Saturday, 8:00 a.m., and ended up with eighteen bikes. We all made our way to
Hooters in Kennesaw without incident or accident. The Ride for Life was well managed and with
the exception of some very serious rain threats everything went well. We did not get rained on be
we followed the rain though a good part of the ride. I think George Upchurch should be give
credit for the group staying dry.
When the ride ended back at Hooters there was plenty of food and entertainment for everyone.
The Atlanta Chapter was well represented and even made some strong contribution to the
auction. The American Diabetes Association benefitted a great deal from the event. Last, but not
least, I want to thank Kevin Magill for leading the second group and Andy Andresen and Harry
Coggins for weeping the two groups.
John Provost, Road Captain
Get Sticky …Have Fun!
At least that was the plan for 20 people when the ride began on Saturday morning. We
succeeded.
Sticky Fingers in Chattanooga was our destination for delectable BBQ. To get there we traveled
some four-lane roads, some two-lane curves. We had some clouds and wind. We experienced
some road kill aromas, poultry perfumes and the essence of campsites.
In the John’s Mountain area with the narrow roads we had a goat out of it’s fence. A dog was
frenetically fighting the handler to dart into the road and cause an incident. And, we had a large
turtle trying to join our parade.
When we put the kick stands down at Sticky Fingers we were greeted by Tommye, Tom (who
recently had more shoulder surgery), and Hal. That was a nice surprise.
The food was as good as we anticipated. There was a good deal of sticky BBQ sauce on the
necks of the sauce bottles that were going up and down the tables.
From Sticky Fingers we went for a few more curves. Steve Magel led us into Signal Mountain.
Whoa! We found a miracle curve. The first curve enabled a wide glide to go backwards off the
road. A fat boy was able to investigate the gears in new way. An ultra classic popped a wheely
while down shifting. That was some curve -steep-very sharp-banked weird and was
mechanically grated for ice/water/traction control. WOW! Was there a lot to talk about at the
next “backside” break? (There was no need to complete any accident reports.)
What a great day! Thanks go to Steve, Harry, John for ride assistance. Dylan thanks for allowing
us to share your special day.
