MEMBER BENEFIT CHANGE
NEW RIDER REWARDS PROGRAM
Ronnie Godwin, General Manager Harley-Davidson of Atlanta
I want to take a moment to let you all know that in 2006 Harley-Davidson of Atlanta is launching a Rider Rewards Program. This program is designed to reward those customers who are most deserving. Consequently, customers who do more business with Harley-Davidson of Atlanta will reap more benefits as a result of the program.
In the past, many have only joined the Atlanta Chapter merely to receive a discount anytime and every time they made a purchase at the dealership. To many, the Chapter is known only as a discount club. This has removed the true purpose and meaning behind what H.O.G. chapters are really about. Harley-Davidson Motor Company and the National Chapter both discourage
dealers from having an across the board discount for H.O.G. members for this very reason. In keeping with the factory and National Chapters recommendations, we are amending our store’s discount and rewards programs.
The Rider Rewards Program will be available to our entire customer base, including our Chapter members. The Rider Rewards Program will be included FREE OF CHARGE as a part of active chapter membership. For non-chapter members there will be a cost to be a member of the Rider Rewards Program. Non-chapter members will have to acquire their Loyalty card for $9.95 annually or $39.95 for a lifetime membership.
The program is a way for Harley-Davidson of Atlanta customers to earn credit toward future purchases. Each time you make a purchase in MotorClothes, Parts and Accessories and the Service department you will earn a percentage back of every dollar spent. Moreover, points will be earned on qualifying merchandise only. Chapter members will also receive points for their participation in Chapter or dealership sanctioned events and functions (e.g., chapter meetings,
chapter rides, socials, volunteer time, etc.).
The Rider Rewards Program will begin in January 2006. We are looking forward to implementing this new program. We are confident you will find this Riders Reward program to be rewarding to you.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
The weather has taken a turn for the better in recent days and hopefully you’ve been able to get out and do some riding. Temperatures have been running above average for this time of year and I’m seeing more and more bikes on the road. The Chapter Officers and Road Captains have been planning many rides for the coming months so maybe you’ll come join us for some.
This past weekend I was out riding and was reminded of some of the basic rules of riding and why I ride. As most of you know last year Terri and I bought Brad his first motorcycle, a dirt bike. He had gotten tired of riding on the back of the Harley and wanted to learn to ride his own bike. A motocross bike was the answer. I quickly learned that I could not keep up with him by riding the four-wheeler ATV and it didn’t fit on some of the trails he would ride so I bought a dirt bike too. We took the motocross rider training class offered at the Honda Rider training center in Alpharetta and began another chapter in our life of riding. That brings me to this past weekend. No, I was not out riding my Harley as a lot of you were, but I was riding and having a great time. Brad, a friend of ours named KC, and I went out and tried a new Motocross/ATV
track and campground in Cedartown. We were on a steep down hill section and to make a long story short I let my weight shift in the wrong direction, applied too much front brake and went over the handlebars. There was no serious damage to me or the bike. Got it up, got it running and on down the hill we went, on the trail this time.
I tell you this story because sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we can’t take the safety of our motorcycle riding for granted. It’s not an automatic out there. You have to practice, you have to pay attention and always have to have a backup plan when you are faced with an emergency situation. I started riding street motorcycles about five years ago. I’ve ridden more than 65,000 miles. I have taken beginners classes, advanced classes, and even more advanced classes. I often will go into a parking lot and practice my riding skills, tight turns, left and right, emergency braking, evasive maneuvers, etc.! Many people have never had any formal training. This is evidenced by the number of people you see riding on the road who you can tell don’t know what they are doing. If you have never taken a rider training course then go do it. If you have great, now find an advanced course and take it. There is always something more you can learn. But most of all take the time to practice in a safe and secure location. It only takes a few minutes to run through a few skills and then get back on the road. While you’re riding, be planning all the time what you will do when faced with an emergency. Play out scenarios in your mind using the traffic around you. What will you do if that car suddenly pulls out in front of you, or what if someone suddenly slams on the brakes? It’s like the Boy Scouts’ motto, “Be Prepared.” It’s not automatic out there. I know I need more practice with the dirt bike. It’s a totally different animal.
One of the great things about riding this weekend was the number of families that were out there. Several friends and families camped out in tents, cooking over the grill or open fires, kids and parents riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers. It is good outdoor fun with friends and family. Isn’t
that what riding is all about? Going out and having fun, seeing new places, meeting new people. I met one guy who also rides a street bike and goes to church with one of our Chapter members. So whether it’s your Harley, dirt bike, four-wheeler, or whatever you’re riding, get out there, have
some fun and share it with your family and friends. Just remember to take time to practice. There is always room for improvement.
Ride for Fun.

HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN'S REPORT
February’s Road Captain of the Month is Andy Andresen. He attended three events and logged 110 miles for the chapter. Thanks Andy.
Here it is April already. This year is really flying by. For those of you who haven’t already, it’s time to get the bike out of mothballs. Get it serviced and get out there. The ride calendar is looking good for the summer. It looks like we have a wide variety of rides. Hopefully some of these will fit your schedule and ride preference.
I’m looking forward to some weekend trips. If you have not been on an overnight chapter ride you should try this year. It’s always a good time. There are several already on the calendar. Keep your eyes open.
If you are looking for places to ride or going on a family vacation with a bike in tow, check out the national HOG site. They have lots of ideas. If you’re not sure about the area or your intended travel contact the local HOG chapter. See if they have any rides when you are going to be in the area. If not they can probably hook you up with some great routes. If anyone has questions, comments, or suggestions feel free to contact me anytime.
Group Ride for Beginners
On April 22 I’m going to lead a Group Ride for Beginners. Hopefully the rain will not be a factor this time. Come on out if you are new to riding or group riding. I’ll be giving a very brief speech covering the basics of group rides. Then we’ll do a short ride. We will meet at 11:00 am and
probably leave the dealership around 12 noon. The ride will be a short 30 minutes maybe an hour. It will probably end at a restaurant (Ride to eat - Eat to ride!). Everyone is welcome! It is always nice to have experienced riders to give suggestions and comments. I hope to see you.
Weekly E-mail
Starting in April, I will be sending out a weekly E-mail to chapter members, updating the upcoming weekend rides and events. If you don't receive my 1st email by Thursday, April 6, please contact me or B.K with your E-mail address.

WEB MASTER'S REPORT
Atlanta Chapter Web Page
Due to a review of our web page by national H.O.G., I have had to do some changing. I will no longer list chapter members’ birthdays on the web page. They will still be in the HOGWASH and on the web page in the HOGWASH Print as Mailed. I had to move the HOGWASH Archives and the HOGWASH Print as Mailed to a password-protected page. You will need a UserId and password to access these pages. I will print the UserId and password in the HOGWASH each month so you will have access to these pages. This is security protection for our members who names and email addresses appear in past and/or current publications. This does not apply to chapter officer/road captains per national H.O.G. This information is for Atlanta Chapter members ONLY and is not to be disseminated to NON-Chapter Members. These changes only apply to the web site. The HOGWASH publication will remain the same.
Keep Email Address Updated!
If you have updated your e-mail address, PLEASE send me your new address. I get several undeliverable e-mail messages each time I send a message updating members on up coming or changed events. Please, keep you e-mail address up to date and stay informed! E-mail me at hog@mindspring.com. Thanks!!
Atlanta Chapter on Yahoo!
Atlanta Chapter has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to post messages and upload pictures. You will have to register to sign on. When you register, please give you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Chris Robey will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call the Road Captain listed for the ride.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page,
www.atlantahog.com or the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

POTPOURRI
Ride Reminder
This is just a friendly reminder from North Georgia to those who might want to start hitting the curves up here as soon as our weather breaks (which it certainly did this weekend).
We’ve had several snows up here this winter and as a result there has been a lot of small black gravel placed on the roads. Many intersections and curves have tons of this stuff lying around, all of which spells potential trouble for us motorcyclists. Just remember it’s out there and take
the appropriate measures. Much of it is easily seen but much of it is also not apparently visible,so be especially watchful on roads like GA 60, 180, 197, 129 and 75, among the more popular. Traffic has blown a lot of this away on major roads, but the secondary roads are the most dangerous, so be careful.

2006 GA State H.O.G. Rally
Join us in celebrating the 2006 GA State H.O.G. Rally. September 7 - 9 on Jekyll Island,"Georgia's Jewel."
It's no wonder Jekyll has been a favorite spot for the Georgia H.O.G. Rally in years past. Sitting six miles from the mainland, Jekyll offers a unique combination of rich history, unspoiled natural beauty and an impressive array of sports, recreational activities and amenities.
This year's rally will be held on Jekyll Island from September 7 through September 9. Pre-registration deadline is July 20, 2006. Pre-registration fee is $40.00 per person. This includes a rally T-shirt, rally pin and rally patch. This year we are offering a shirt upgrade. You may order a Henley short sleeve for an additional $5.00. Or you may order a Ladies Cut T for an additional
$5.00. We are also offering an optional Low Country Boil dinner on Saturday evening before the closing ceremonies. Cost for the Low Country Boil is $20.00 per person. Please keep in mind that the dinner is optional and the closing ceremonies celebration is open to ALL rally participants after dinner. Registration forms are available online through the rally website.
The host hotel is the Buccaneer Beach Resort at 85 South Beachview Drive, Jekyll Island, GA 31527. The entire hotel has been reserved for the rally so you MUST mention that you are a H.O.G. member or you will NOT get a room. The hotel's phone number is 912.635.2261. You may visit the rally website for additional lodging information.
As events and plans are finalized they will be posted to the website. Committee contact information is also available on the website. Feel free to call or email at any time with questions, comments or suggestions.

MEMBER COMMENT
Dear Friends and Family,
I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the American Diabetes Association’s Ride to Live in its efforts to find a cure for diabetes. I will also take part in the Ride to Live to raise visibility and funds for this cause. Did you know there are 20.8 million people in the United
States with diabetes? There are 747,000 in Georgia. Each day approximately 2,740 people are diagnosed with diabetes.
Please help me in this important endeavor by contributing generously to the American Diabetes Association. Your tax-deductible contribution will fund the American Diabetes Association's research, education and advocacy programs.
It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause. You can make your donation online by simply going to the link listed at the bottom of this message. If you would prefer, you can also send your tax-deductible contribution to the address listed below. If you choose this option, please be sure to include my name on your donation, as the Ride to Live participant.
More information on the American Diabetes Association and its programs can be found at www.diabetes.org.
Whatever you can give makes a HUGE difference in the lives of all affected by diabetes. I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

ROAD TRIP
All Harley Drags
Saturday, April 29, 2006
We will make the trip to Reynolds, Georgia on some Interstate Highways and on some back roads. We will either stop for breakfast or an early lunch depending on the wishes of the group. Race tickets are $25.00 to $40.00. The ride will end Saturday but the races will continue through Sunday. There are many hotels within a short distance of the track. There should also be a good collection of vendors on the grounds. Plan to join us for a good time and some really fast bikes.

Top Gun Ride for Children
Saturday, May 6, 2006
This ride will be a very simple ride from the dealership to the HOOTERS in Kennesaw where the TOP GUN ride will begin. This ride is for a very good cause - primarily children - and in the past has been a really great ride. The information for the ride can be obtained along with registration information from www.TopGunRideAtlanta.com. This ride includes a silent auction, live music, dinner and a military program upon arrival at Dobbins Air Force Base. Additionally, this ride has been the best escorted ride I have ever been on due to the presence of Cobb County’s VERY FINEST.
Check out the web site, and register. Let’s go together for a great cause and a great time.

Ride to Live
Saturday, May 13, 2006
This ride is just another simple ride from the dealership to HOOTERS in Kennesaw. The real fun is the gathering at HOOTERS and the escorted ride through Cobb County. Then there is more fun upon returning to HOOTERS. Actually, the real fun is in knowing that you have done your part to help fight diabetes. For information and registration assistance visit their web site at www.diabetes.org/ridetolive. This is a fun ride and a good deal. Let’s go together and represent our chapter.
