September Chapter Meeting: At our September meeting the 50/50 drawing of $62 was won by B.K. Ellis. Randy Turner won the attendance Jackpot and the $60 Gift Certificate, compliments of Harley-Davidson of Atlanta.
Saddle 'N Paddle Review: The Saddle 'N Paddle ride to North Carolina was a great success. We had 10 folks and 7 bikes going up, and 4 others on 3 bikes joined us that evening and the next day. Our trip was blessed with absolutely great weather and the scenery was fantastic. Raft trip had 5 boats and only 3 available guides. It was not too bad as I followed the "guided" raft in front of us, we only had one overboard and that was my fault as we clipped a branch causing the raft to
abruptly stop, slipped overboard. No, it wasn't me,'cause I would admit to it! Right at the end at Nantahala falls we got stuck on two rocks, Mendel was the "hero" of the hour, as he figured out a way to free the boat. Tom Sigerfoos, Activities

H.O.G. AROUND THE SHOP
By the time you receive this newsletter it will be time to start heading off to Milwaukee for the 100th Anniversary Party. I
am really looking forward to going, and carrying the Chapter flag in the Parade on the 31st. Look for Sharon and I if you are up there.
The March of Dimes Battle of the bikes show will be over by then. No telling how it will go but with the response for volunteers I got I am sure there will have been plenty of good help. I will report in the next HOGWASH.
I have managed to get some really nice things to raffle for the March of Dimes ride in October. I have an autographed football from Frank Wycheck #89 at the Tennessee Titans, the Cleveland Browns have promised a football, and I am working on others. Support the ride and the Chapter's participation in the event by purchasing raffle tickets, collecting money from friends and people you do business with. Enter your bike in other Battle of the Bikes shows. Make sure if you collect any money you turn it in using one of the envelopes provided in the March of Dimes flyer. Where it says "Club Code" put down our Chapter Number 1001.
The dealership has donated one of the top prizes for the event, a 2003 Dyna Low Rider. This will be awarded on the day of the ride October 5th. Help support the Dealership, the Chapter, and help provide much needed medical equipment for the Babies of Georgia.
I really want us to make a good showing this year.

HOTEL INFORMATION
ROAD TRIP(S)
GOLF/MOTORCYCLE OUTING OCTOBER 10th AND 11th
I mentioned in last month's HOGWASH that on the weekend of October 10th and 11th we have a chapter ride to North
Georgia to play golf and/or ride. Last year in Asheville, we only had 4 golfers, so please don't think the riding part is to be de-emphasized. There will be several rides laid out for you, complete with maps and point-to-point directions, so come and enjoy the mountains of north Georgia at their finest.
Please let me know if you will be playing golf, and what your handicap is (honesty here, no sandbagging please!). Send your information to the email address listed below. I'll need to set up groups for a Best Ball type tournament and get tee
times.
We will also have a planned dinner Saturday night* at the Barn Door, right across the highway from the Brasstown Valley Resort. Cost is $25.00 per person and includes full course dinner (salad, bread, entrée, side items, dessert, and drink) and gratuity:
Entrée choices:
Fried trout/almond or pecan crusted
<8 oz Sirloin
12 oz Chargrilled Rib Eye
Stuffed Pork Chop
Chargrilled Alaskan Salmon
Two chargrilled chicken breasts
Sides:
Baked Potato
Baked Sweet Potato
Rice
Desserts:
Key Lime Pie
Cheesecake
Apple Crisp á la mode
* You are not obligated to do this planned dinner if you would prefer to go out on your own. I will put together a list of other decent restaurants in the area since Friday night's dinner will be "on your own" anyway. If you do plan to eat at the Barn Door, I will need to know which entrée you prefer so that the restaurant will be prepared with the right selections.
Please let me know your entrée choice via email at dynabear@tds.net.
Reservations at the Best Western Milton Inn in Blairsville, GA must be made by September 10th at (706) 745-6995;
20 non smoking rooms have been blocked under the name of Atlanta Chapter H.O.G. When you make your
reservations, let me have your dinner entrée choice and your handicap if you are going to play golf.
Chris Houghton will have a trailer to take everyone's golf clubs up to the Brasstown Valley Resort -- have them to
HD Atlanta on or before October 9th.

Been There Done That
SOUTHERN HIGHROADS RECAP
This year's Southern Highroads Trail ride was absolutely the best ever!! I did the route in reverse this year, and I think I will keep it this way as the sights were even better than before. I saw a lot of things I never had on past rides and the waterfalls were especially spectacular. Overall, this is the best scenery I've seen other than that out in the western U.S., and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. The weather was nothing less than fantastic except for a brief shower Saturday night which did dampen some folks coming from town to the base hotel for dinner.
We had the largest group for this ride in its three-year history, consisting of 34 bikes and 41 people, and I think about 70% of the group was on its first Southern Highroads ride. The size of the group had me concerned about the logistics of the ride, like gas stops and meals but things went very well and everyone was patient with everything. I have never led a group this large and yet felt so relaxed! I was both pleased and amazed at the interaction which took place among the group -- it truly was like family (the ones you like)!! Everybody got along just great, like they had been riding together for a long time, and there was a lot of humor and many funny stories after dinner both nights. Every break we took on the road saw people laughing and sharing stories. Our accommodations were good overall, and although there were a few problems to be worked out, nothing took away from the fantastic time we all had.
I promised lots of curves and of the 600 miles we all rode together, I'll bet close to 500 of them were curves. Even Andy Otwell (a.k.a. King of Curves) was overheard saying he had had enough by the time we left Cardin's Landing on Sunday,
which is at the Tennessee end of the Cherohala Skyway. The group did have one major delay on day two in Cherokee due to my error on a fuel stop, and we all killed an hour waiting for Tom Arnold to bring his group in. A huge thanks goes out to Tom, Andy and Scott Vandiver for running as middle captains and sweep, all of which made my job a ton easier. And kudos too, to the entire group for the way they rode; with this many riders, not many of whom had ridden together before,
you all did just great, and I thank you for that.
I'm ready to run this one again already, but like Christmas I guess just doing it once a season helps keeps it special. I had a blast, and really enjoyed seeing everyone have a good time. Thanks to all of you for the opportunity to lead this one for you!!

BUTLER'S MILL RECAP
Well thanks again to everyone that dared mother nature and showed up for this Sunday ride. Twelve bikes made this short but dry 65 mile ride, picking up three additional riders at the B.P. on Hwy. 27. I knew everyone was wondering where we
were going when we turned onto AL 92 because this was the "boonies". Butlers Mill is a quaint old corn mill on the little Tallapoosa River. A country buffet is served on Sunday with all the usual -- fried chicken, catfish, fried green tomatoes and beans, with homemade ice cream and fresh apple & peach cobblers for dessert. I believe everyone ate their fill. Thanks go to Gary Langmaid for running sweep.
Gene Williams, Road Captain
