The Trailer's Edge
From The Tow Vehicle
The temperature is what ever I want it to be. I can eat, drink or smoke at my leisure. I can listen to the radio, cassette, cd, sing to myself or just quite. I can rest and relax coming or going. Do not be a "closet trailerer", be proud of it. I only have one problem, I could not find me a patch, " I trailered mine to trailer week". All joking aside do not give in to peer pressure, do what's best for YOU!
Tips on Trailering:
1. Check towing capacity of tow vehicle. 2. Get the weight of your trailer empty, your motorcycle, and all your gear. Make sure that it is compatible with your tow vehicle. 3. Bolt or rivet the ground wire from the trailer wiring, to the trailer. Do not relay on the ball making a good ground. This will eliminate dim or flickering lights. 4. Center the weight of the motorcycle on the trailer. It will pull easier and you will not exceed the tongue weight of your trailer. 5. Buy the proper hitch that will keep the trailer as level as possible. 6. Use more than two straps on your bike, try to go to the frame, not just the handle bars. This makes it more stable, and if you only use two straps& one lets go you will need to fix something, after you stopped crying. 7. Keep check on air pressure in your trailer tires and the tie down straps. 8. If you have smaller tires on your trailer than your tow vehicle go slower. 9. Always make sure all lights are working before and while on your trip. 10. Give yourself plenty of room, to stop or turn.
If anyone needs help just contact me. "TRAILER VERN."
PS. Look for a "Map Reading" Skills Course in the near future.
(A.K.A.) WRONG TURN VERN.
Vern Eldred Ride Captain, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
I cannot believe I am writing this, the last HOGWASH of 2001, boy, time flies when you are riding you Harley and having fun. Let me wish you and your family Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the coming year.
I had a great time this year riding with many of you and hope for your continued support of the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. next year. I sincerely appreciate your support you gave me and the Atlanta Chapter. I also want to thank the Officers that I worked with this year and the outstanding job they did in providing and exceptional array of rides. I know I have gained a pound or two on all the dinner rides. A BIG THANKS goes to Dick Cadou, Rene' Durham, Steve Johnson, Patty Toney, David Olszewski, Shyra Houghton, Hank Somma, Jim Sherrer, Don Brown, Vernon Eldred, Tom Sigerfoos and Mike Volk for an outstanding job. Lets not for get Jim Keely, who kept the Yahoo Calender and Hot Line up to date and Our Hosts, Eddie and Chris Houghton for the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. and their continued outstanding support.
I am setting here looking over the Calender for this past year, trying to decide which ride I enjoyed the most and I guess it will have to be Tom Sigerfoos's High Roads Trail Ride. Thanks Tom and Tommye for an outstanding three days. Tom also does one of our more popular rides to LaPrade's, even if he doesn't know the way (just had to put that in Tom). I know members are still talking about Dick Cadou's, Panama City Beach Ride, unfortunately I missed that one. We had a great Spring Ride to Charleston, even if I did lead that one myself. For your information Patty has already book room for Charleston, April 19-21, 2002. Is that planning? I know that there were more great rides than the ones I mentioned and just as important. Thanks to all who lead a ride this year. I want to thank David Olszewski and Lee Benton for stepping up and leading rides this year, they were not even "Official Ride Leaders." It makes this job so much easier when you have great people supporting you. I know I have left out a lot of names that helped make the Atlanta Chapter successful and I want you to know that each and every one of you were very important to the success of the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. and I applaud you for your support.
Thanks to Shyra and her committee for an outstanding Harleyween Party. Congratulations to People Choice Winners: Best Costume, Female; Rene Durham, Mimi, Best Costume, Male; Mike Fernander, Bin Laden and Bike Show Winner, Mike Robinson.
Thanks to Patty and all that helped, in putting together a supper Chili Cook Off and Bake Sale to support the Atlanta Chapter's Club House. More than $600 was raised. Best All Around Chili, Sheila Juhan. Most Likely to Burn Chili, Lee Benton. Best Dressed Cook and Display, Paul Gardner. Most Likely to Sleep Alone Chili, Pat Dunbar. Thanks to all who make the Chili Cook Off a big success. Get you pots ready for next year, Patty promises a bigger and better cook off.
Chris will announce next year's Officers at the December Club meeting.
Remember, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. dues are going up to $20 January 1, 2002. If you have not renewed your membership by the mailing of January HOGWASH, you will be deleted form the mailing list.
Please call or email me about any concerns you have about the Atlanta Chapter. All input is welcomed, good or bad. I would like to hear from you!
Remember that alcohol is not permitted on Atlanta Chapter Rides. If you must drink while participating on an Atlanta Chapter Ride, you will be ask to leave the ride. PLEASE! Don't make our Ride Leaders make this decision.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S THOUGHTS
It has been my pleasure to serve this past year as your Assistant Director; and, for the most part, working with my fellow officers who contributed to the overall club experience.
It is my hope that the next year will present as many varying types of activities as possible to keep you interested in participating with your fellow members.
As much as I like some of the static events; we are a club about Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the riding experience. With that said I quote the HOG chant, "RIDE and have FUN!"
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Ride Free!
Ride like an adult - assume the responsibility!
Crank'em up and move'm out! Ride safe!
Dick CadouAssistant Director,Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
RENEWAL TIME
It's that time again, RENEWAL TIME! In the next two months we will be taking 2002 renewals and new members. If you renew before December 31, 2001 your DUES will be $15.00. If you wait until after the first of the year dues will be $20.00. That's right we are going up on our Membership Dues. So don't delay, you have 2 months. If you have not renewed your membership by the mailing of the January 2002 HOGWASH, you WILL NOT receive the Newsletter. We included a Membership Application in the October HOGWASH, so hold on to it. It will not be mailed again. You can also find one on the Web at www.atlantahog.com or come by Harley-Davidson of Atlanta and fill one out on the spot.
Everyone be safe.
Rene' DurhamSecretary/Treasurer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Keep those bikes serviced, you'll enjoy them a lot more if you do.
Ride today like you want be able to ride tomorrow!
Please Ride Responsible and God Bless America.

Well, everyone Fall is finally here. The leaves are changing, the weather is changing, and we have all changed from September, 11th. I know we are all strong and will get through this together, and that means together as a nation. Out of tragedy usually comes good. One good thing is that people are really caring more about each other and being there for one another.
We, officers of Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G., want you to know that we will be there for you in any way we can. If you have needs that need to be met, we will meet them to the best of our ability. We are here to help you, when you need help we are here when you have a suggestion or an idea for the Chapter and/or for us. All of us really do want and we need suggestions from you. We want you to tell us if you have a ride that you think would be fun. You also have the right to lead a ride anytime you wish to (this is not reserved only for officers and road captains). All you need to do is let B.K. know what you want to do and he will do his best to put it on the calendar. (Hint: the farther in advance B.K. knows, the easier it will be for him to schedule your ride when you want to go).
With this, there have been a few changes that we feel will benefit the Chapter. One of the changes is the Calling Post. You know, that computer generated thing that calls each of you when something is coming up or when something has been changed. B.K. informed the members at the meeting last month that we will no longer be using the Calling Post. Oh, I know, we are
disappointed too. But they notified us, informing us that would need to start charging for the calls. They were going to charge somewhere between $.05 and $.10 per call (it may have been a little more). That doesn't sound bad, except we have well over 900 members. After doing the math, it may still not sound too bad, but it is an expense that we just could not justify when we had more important places to put that money. However, the HOTLINE is still up and running. Jim Keely does a great job keeping that up to date for us. So you can still rely on the Hotline and of course the newsletter.
L.O.H. has adopted a charity to work with. How is this new? Well we will not be working with them only once a year, but rather all through the year. You can read all the details about the S.H.A.R.E. House in this newsletter as well as online at www.atlantahog.com
We will plan rides every two or maybe three months. I will try to schedule them around a holiday if I can. The first ride is December 8, 2001. Check the calendar for the details. I hope to see as many of you out that day as possible. If you can't ride with us, please donate a toy for the children. It can be whatever you feel would be good. The mothers could use donations as well. They can use make up, toiletry items etc., just about anything. Remember, the mothers and children left their homes literally with the clothes on their back, that's it. They need anything and everything. I am really looking forward to this ride. You can also leave your toy and/or donation at the shop. They have a couple of boxes there for you to deposit the items in. Thanks in advance for all your help on this one.
Well that's about all I have this month. Remember to call on any of us at any time. We really do want to help.
Let me know how I am doing!
Catch ya later, see ya.
Patty Toney Ladies of Harley Officer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Hello Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Well, it's hard to believe the year is already over. As usual, I did not get in as much riding as I wanted to, so it looks like I'll have that New Years resolution again. I've enjoyed serving as your Safety Officer this year. Hopefully, some of my ramblings have been beneficial and helped you think about safe motorcycling. Because, if you ride safely, you'll ride longer!
This email made the time and effort spent putting together articles this year worth it.
Hello Mr. Olszewski,
"I wanted to let you that I really enjoyed your pep talk piece for new riders in last month's newsletter. I too just bought a new Sportster at the end of September and, well, let me just say that riding hasn't come as easily for me as it has for my husband who started riding dirt bikes as a teenager."
"Do you have any contact information for the lady you were referring to in that piece? If so, could you forward my email address to her and see if she would be interested in talking with me? She is definitely an inspiration to the rest of us who have decided to take up riding for the first time."
Thanks,Angel Ent
If you ride safely, you'll ride longer!

Hello "Bikers" and "Bikerettes"
GOD BLESS!
Until next month, be careful and ride safe.

Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to chat with other Atlanta Chapter Members. You will have to register to sign on to chat, load pictures and post messages. When you register, please give us you name, city and email address. That way other members will recognize your name and be able to email you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. You will also be able to check out other Harley related clubs around the world. If you have problems, email me and I will try and help.
Jim Keely keeps the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. Jim is also in charge of the Hot Line. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call 770-908-3435.
This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page, www.atlantahog.comor the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.
