Happy 16th Anniversary Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
We had a great turn out for our 16th Anniversary Party. The weather was absolutely the best ever for the day's activities and riding.. We had a great array of food. and desserts. Shyra brought in one of those air filled balloon obstacle course and bounce compound for the little kids while us big kids did field events. This was the first year ever that we had a paved area to hold the field events. We used the Rider's Edge training course. We also were given the opportunity to test our skills on the riding course. Thanks to Dennis Harmon for bring out the Buell Blast Motorcycles to let everyone ride that want to tale a turn around the course.. He also let us use our own motorcycle on the course. Thanks Eddie, Chris and Dennis for this opportunity.
I would like to thank everyone for all the great food they brought. The club provided four Honey Baked Hams and Turkey Breasts and they were all eaten. We had everything from fried chicken, chicken and dressing, sweet potatoes souffle, bake beans, potato and macaroni salad and all salads in between. The desert table was just as great with Banana Puddings, home made cakes, brownies and some luscious looking mixture with strawberries and whip cream on top. Needless to say by the time I got there it was all gone.
Thanks to "all" who helped keeping things running smoothly. Having 200 people to dinner is not a walk in the park. It takes quite a few hands to keep things running smoothly and I think we did a great job.
In lieu of the 50/50 drawing, we donated all the money that was collected from our guest paying $10 to members just pitching their 50/50 money to the Red Cross. We came up with $400 and Eddie and Cris matched that for a total of $1000. Thanks to everyone who so generously donated and especially to Eddie and Chris.
Congratulations to the following Field Event Winner and to all that participated:
Balloon Wash Joe and Judy Cobb Balls and Cones Chris and Kim Williams Slow Race-Men Chris Williams Slow Race-Women Vickey Olszewski Slow Race-Run Off Vickey Olszewski
Congratulations to Dan Smyly, the winner of or "Willie G." Contest. After drawing several tickets, members holding these tickets were not present at the Anniversary Party, Marcia Schoultz's ticket was drawn by Shyra. As you know, you had to a member of the National H.O.G. and the Atlanta Chapter in good standing. Marcia had a current Atlanta Chapter Membership Card but could not find her National Card. I gave her to the September Atlanta Chapter Meeting to produce the card, she could not so we started drawing agin. Now Dan is the proud owner of a $540.00 Willie G. Leather Jacket. It does pay to participate in Atlanta Chapter Rides. Thanks Dan for you participation. Hope you wear your jacket proudly and enjoy it and keep participating.
Please call or email me about any concerns you have about the Atlanta Chapter. All input is welcomed, good or bad. I would like to hear from you!
Remember that alcohol is not permitted on Atlanta Chapter Rides. If you must drink while participating on an Atlanta Chapter Ride, you will be ask to leave the ride. PLEASE! Don't make our Ride Leaders make this decision.
Ride Safe and Have Fun!

Hey everybody, haven't we had some beautiful weather for riding though! I hope all of you were able to get to ride as many of our Chapter rides as possible, we've had quite a few this month. And we still have a few more to go. On the 15th, I led a dinner ride, of about 15 of the best people I know, on about 10 bikes, to the Front Porch in Carrollton which was a really enjoyable event. The weather was very comfortable, we took a beautiful ride though the country and ate some delicious food and plenty of it, too. Perhaps we can do it again before winter sets in on us.
October promises to be pretty busy too. You can look on the calender for the specifics. Hope to see you on as many of those rides as can you can make. And may God Bless America.
Keep those bikes serviced, you'll enjoy them a lot more if you do.
Ride today like you want be able to ride tomorrow!
Please Ride Responsible.

Hello Atlanta H.O.G. We are going to break from safety tips this month and provide a pep talk instead. This article is for all of the new riders out there and those folks with the thought of trying but need a little push. Three things to remember - you never know unless you try; don't give up, and keep on practicing. This story I can attest to personally, but it is one that happens all of the time. One rider had wanted to pilot her own Hog for a long time. She finally decided to give it a try and jumped in with both feet. She, of course, bought all of the gear you could possibly need and enrolled in the MSF beginning riders course. That first course did not go so well, as she crashed the bike and did not finish. Undaunted, she borrowed an old XR100 dirt bike and practiced. (I highly recommend some previous experience before taking the beginner MSF course.) Much progress was made on the little bike and the next month, she went back and passed the MSF course. Now taking this knowledge and putting it into effect on the street on her own Sportster Hugger has been a tremendous battle. The Sportster's engine guards have been put to the test on a couple of occasions. Nothing serious, just trouble manipulating stops and turns. At one point, the little Sportster went up for sale, but thanks to support from other female HOG members, she is still riding. In fact, this weekend she even won the female slow race event and, I won't mention Chris's name, well his last name anyway, she beat him to take the overall. So, with this story as evidence - you never know unless you try, don't give up, and keep on practicing.
If you are a new rider or thinking of becoming one, there are plenty of chapter members willing to help and support your efforts; especially your chapter officers. Just give us a call, we will be glad to help our future bikers.
If you ride safely, you'll ride longer!

Hello "Bikers" and "Bikerettes"
I hope you are enjoying the "cool" weather and the beautiful sunshine that we are experiencing. Are you ready for the 1st Annual Harleyween Costume Party? You better be getting it together because this is going to be such a great event you will want to buy your ticket for next year soon after this year's party - and that is a promise!!! Start getting your costume ready - the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will leave you speechless. Also, start shining up your bike and adding those extras so you can be a winner is our "Bike Show." We have formed a committee of volunteers and included on the committee is Leslie, who works at the dealership in the Motor Clothes Department. If you need to ask any questions while at the shop - find her - she will have the answer you are looking for. Tickets will be available to be purchased before the party as well as at the door. If you purchase your ticket before the party you will receive a bonus!! You will receive a personal invitation to this event soon - but go ahead and mark it on your calendar, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27TH. I ask that you attend this and show your support to Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. and Harley-Davidson of Atlanta. This party will be of course as mentioned above and annual event and hopefully one we will all look forward to.
I have received some wonderful feedback and ideas from some of you, please keep them coming. For those of you who are not aware we WILL NOT have the Christmas party this year. Instead we will have a reception and member appreciation one evening at the dealership. Our intentions are for the "Harleyween Party" to take the place of our annual Christmas party. Christmas is a busy time of the year and so many people have work parties and family gathering and have a difficult time attending our holiday celebration. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
If you have not attended a regularly scheduled meeting for the chapter lately - please try and do so. Your participation is greatly needed. If you have any previous "hang-ups" with the chapter -please give it a new chance. Chris and I are doing our very best to bring our chapter to the level at which it needs to be, but we need YOU to be able to do that. The meetings are the third Thursday of the month, 7:30 p.m. at the dealership.
If you have not visited Harley-Davidson of Atlanta lately I urge you to come by. The show room is looking its very best - thanks to all of the hard work from the girls in Motor clothes. We have just gotten in some great new merchandise for the fall and winter. Summer items are still available for you "Biketoberfest goers." We will be attending this event and if someone is seen wearing a "Harley-Davidson of Atlanta" t-shirt or hat - you will be "rewarded" on the spot!!! There will be lots of us looking for you - so go by and pick you up some new items.
One more note from the dealership - start thinking about your winter gear & apparel. Do you have everything you need? Gloves, boots, rain suit, warm riding gear is important - don't get caught cold unprepared!! The 2002 models are here!!! If you missed the "New Year Model Celebration" on September 8th, don't worry - you are welcome to stop by anytime. You never know it may be that year to upgrade!! Also are you ready for the unveiling of the hottest thing going in the motorcycle industry - the new and awesome looking "V-ROD?" Be the first to see this - we will be announcing the date soon for this spectacular piece of machinery will be introduced!!! I admit I am a little excited about this myself.
Chris and I want to think each and everyone of your for your support and attendance at this year's Poker Run. Wow, was it a great turn out. We raised a great deal of money - thank you.
One last thing - For all of you new member and/or new bike owners - please attend the ride/orientation we have just for you on the third Saturday of every month. The ride is non-intimidating and beautiful. You will find this beneficial for riding with groups in the future. Look at the calendar of events for the time.
GOD BLESS!
Until next month, be careful and ride safe.

Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. HISTORY
Four years ago this month, October, 1997
October,11 to 12, 1997, Asheville Leaf Ride
Were you in the group of 58 riders who pulled out of the parking lot, hold on. When the group left the "Lunching Pad" at the Varsity we were 48 bikes strong ". We got off to a rough start because the ride leader, not only managed to get in the wrong lane of Spring Street but dropped his bike trying to correct things. After that things went well. We phoned the Dillard House to warn them we were coming and the lady "dropped" the phone when told how many were coming.
We had a good ride but there were some folks (who shall remain nameless) who did not heed the warning about the dip sign and got wet, when we arrived at the Dillard House they were so happy to see us they put us out back in a separate building (away from there other guest).
On the way up the Blue Ridge Parkway the mercury started to drop and after bundling up we headed on to Asheville, checked in and plans were made for dinner.
Sunday morning we headed to the Shoneys to invade the breakfast buffet. When the hostess asked if we were riding motorcycles, the "Chapter Comedian", Dan Gardiner, replied, "no, we just dress like this". When Dan went to pay his check the hostess had a carving knife tightly gripped in her hand!
We managed to get back home safely, great fun, great bikers.(ride leader unknown)

Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/atlantachapterhog
Please, check it out! You will be able to chat with other Atlanta Chapter Members. You will have to register to sign on to chat, load pictures and post messages. When you register, please give us you name, city and email address. That way other members will recognize your name and be able to email you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. You will also be able to check out other Harley related clubs around the world. If you have problems, email me and I will try and help.
Jim Keely keeps the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. Jim is also in charge of the Hot Line. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call 770-908-3435.

Daytona Biketoberfest 2001October 19-21, 2001
We will have a Chapter Ride to Biketoberfest. It is difficult to schedule something like this since some many have their own schedules to contend with. We have nothing planned as a group when we get to Daytona except for lunch on Friday. See HOGWASH Calendar. The one's staying at Boardwalk Inn will be able to decide among ourselves which direction we want to head each day and where to eat. Since there will be such a short time there, everyone will want to do and see as much as possible. If you want to ride with the group, meet at the IHOP , I-675 South, Exit 1 or I-75 South Exit 228. This is GA 138 that runs between I-675 and I-75. The IHOP is closer to I-675 than I-75. We will be leaving at 8 AM so if you want to eat plan your arrival time accordingly. I will travel I-75 South to I-10 and over to I-95 to Daytona. Hope the weather cooperates and we have a good ride.

LaPrade's Fall Edition RideOctober 28, 2001
Join us on Sunday, October 28th for a fun filled day of riding and great eating. It's once again time for our semi-annual trek to LaPrade's on scenic Lake Burton in the heart of the north Georgia mountains, featuring great riding, beautiful fall colors, and wonderful food.
Our ride will begin in the Kennesaw area and we'll go up I-575 far enough to pick up GA 136 in Talking Rock which takes us across some really colorful views this time of year. We will then proceed into Dahlonega and take 129 through Turner's Corner, bringing us in near Helen. From there we go GA 356 past Unicoi State Park and on to GA 197 to LaPrade's. We are scheduled for the 1:30 sitting.
This is a Sunday meal at LaPrade's which usually features fried chicken, along with all the usual country veggies and biscuits plus dessert. So join us for what has become one of our Chapter's more popular rides ---you won't be disappointed!
WHAT: LaPrade's ride to Lake Burton area. WHEN: Sunday, October 28th MEETING TIME/LOCATION: 9:30 AM, Cracker Barrel, Exit 271 on I-75N. DEPARTURE: Departure is at 10:15 AM sharp following the safety briefing and route coverage. QUESTIONS/CONCERNS: Tom Sigerfoos, Ride Captain (770) 971-4467 or e-mail dynabear@aol.com
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee RideNovember 3-4, 2001
I am planning an overnight ride to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on November 3 and 4. Patty has blocked 15 rooms at the MicroTel Inn. You have to call the MicroTel Inn and book your own room, 865-429-0150. Tell them you are with the HOG, Atlanta Chapter. It is booked with HOG being the last name. If you call between 7 AM and 3 PM, ask for Jennifer. Deadline for these rooms is October 19, 2001. Since this is the first weekend of millions of Christmas lights they decorate Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, you might want to call early. I have some good roads planned for the ride including the Dragon's Tail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Make your reservations NOW!
Cohutta Lodge RideNovember 17, 2001
Tom Sigerfoos will lead a ride to the Cohutta Lodge on Saturday November 17th. The Cohutta Lodge is located on GA Hwy. 52 W near Ft. Mountain State Park and features some really good eating. Watch for details in your November HOGWASH.
