Please NOTE! Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Business Meetings have moved to the Tuesday preceding the Chapter Meeting on Thursday, unless otherwise noted.
Printer Needed
If you can help us with our printing of the HOGWASH, please call Rene' at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta and discuss what you can offer. Thanks, we really need some help.
Things are finally looking up. We have had some beautiful riding weather the past month. I am quite sure everyone has been out enjoying the sun. I hope this weather holds for the ones of riding down to Daytona. If you are riding and would like to have company, post a message on Yahoo and see if you can connect with someone with your riding schedule. If you don't have a reservation, call Patty Toney and she will try and help you with motel reservation. Don't forget about our dinner get to gather at Julian's on Thursday at 4:00 P.M. and lunch at The Decks on Friday at 11 A.M..
We have moved our monthly Business Meeting to the Tuesday before our Chapter Meeting on Thursday. This way we can get the Chapter Business taken care of in one a week instead of spreading it out over two weeks and cutting into other activities we might have planned. Remember all Chapter Members are invited to the Business Meeting. We would like to have your input on all our activities.
Don't forget about our Willie G. Rides. We will be giving tickets on selected rides an addition ticket if you are wearing Atlanta Chapter H.O.G. apparel. We will draw a ticket at our Anniversary Party for a leather jacket. You have to be present at the party to WIN!
I have deleted the email list for the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Web Page. National H.O.G. frowns on this being published and will not connect us to their Chapter Web Page if it is present. I might have to delete the Directory's phone numbers and email address from the page too. I will find out more about this when we attend the Primary Officer Training in late March. If you want other Chapter Members to have your email address, just register on our Yahoo Page at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/atlantachapterhog. Please make sure you put a real name in the profile so we can find you. We have some very inventive members and you cannot always identify them by the acronyms they create.
Check our Hotel Update if you are planning on going on one or more of our overnight rides. There are deadlines on making reservations. All blocked rooms will be released on published deadlines. The Chapter will not be responsible for paying for unused reservations.
Please call or email me about any concerns you have about the Atlanta Chapter. All input is welcomed, good or bad. I would like to hear from you!
Remember that alcohol is not permitted on Atlanta Chapter Rides. If you must drink and ride, you will be ask to leave the ride. PLEASE! Don't make our Ride Captains make this decision.
We are instituting this year, what we call "Willie G. Rides." We will give tickets on special rides, which will be you're responsible for keeping up with. At the Anniversary party we will draw a ticket and the Luck Member will receive a Leather Jacket. "Willie G. Rides" will not be announced in advance. We will pick one, two three or none, rides a month that will qualify for the "Willie G. Ride." So too win, you will have to attend as many rides as your time permits.
Must be a member in good standing with the National Harley Owners Group and the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Must participate in designated "Willie G. Ride" to receive a ticket.
If you have on any Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. logo apparel, vest, tee-shirt, cap, etc., you will receive an additional ticket. Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. must be clearly visible and authorized merchandise.
Must be present at Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Anniversary Party where ticket will be drawn. We will draw till we have a winner.
Not too hard is it. So just ride, eat and have fun with the Atlanta Chapter and maybe win a Leather Jacket.
Ride Safe and Have Fun!

It seems as though last years Friday lunch rides were popular, so I will conduct a few of these in March again. The dates for the Friday lunch rides are March 9, 2001 and March 16, 2001. Meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 10:30 AM. Leave at I I:00 AM. The feedback I have received is that the New Member Orientations were very successful. It is my intent to continue the good work. The date for New Member Orientation is Saturday, March 10, 2001. Meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 10:00 AM. A short ride will follow the orientation.
If you are receiving this newsletter and don't know why; it's because you are a National H.O.G. member either by choice or by purchasing a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle and receive a free year's membership. You also receive as an added bonus, a membership to your local HOG Chapter. It is in your best interest to become active with your fellow riders; new friends, new places and a different frame of mind can be had. It's yours for the taking! We only get out of it what we are willing to put into it. The risk is minimal, so take a chance.
Crank'em up and move'm out! Ride safe!

Everyone be safe.

Hey Everybody! Yeah, that's right, it's time for Bike Week in Daytona,...again. If you haven't been then you need to go. To those of you who are going, ya'll do have fun, but please do be careful, it is a long ride. And to those who are not going, we're going to have a little fun too! As I did last year at this time, I am reinstating the "Friday Impromptu Lunch Rides", at least for the month of March. There will be 5 of them, the 2nd 9th, 16th, 23rd , and the 3 0th'. And we'll see how it goes from there. Each Friday, we'll meet at the shop at 10:30 A.M. and leave at 11:00 A.M. Please arrive with a full tank of gas, have your chapter ID. card, and be ready to leave on schedule. All rides will conclude upon reaching destination. We enjoyed these rides a lot last year and I am looking forward to them again this year. If any of you have a place in mind that you'd like for us to ride for lunch, please let me know so I can pre-ride the route to avoid unpleasant surprises like road construction or detours etc. We will have our regular Chapter Meeting on the 15' at the shop at 7:30 P.M. Also on the 17' there will be a Saturday lunch ride to the Blue Willow Inn and on the 3st, there will be a Saturday ride to the Music Barn. Check elsewhere in this newsletter for the times for these rides. Another ride that I am reinstating is the "New Member Orientation", we had last year. In March, it will be on the 10th'. At 10:00, we'll meet our new members and go over some safety issues etc. and at 11:00 we'll take a ride somewhere for lunch. Now, it's time to ride!
Ride today like you want be able to ride tomorrow!
Please Ride Responsible,
Steve JohnsonRide Director,Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Vern Eldred, Ride Captain
Hi, I am Vern Eldred, a new Ride Captain for the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. I started riding mini bikes at age six, worked my way up through bigger dirt bikes then in my teens went on to street bikes.
My dad started this obsession when he rode me on his 1950 Indian Chief. He also had 1939, 1951 and 1966 Harleys, so I guess you could say it's in my blood.
I finally bought my first Harley in February 2000...guess I have come full circle now. I ride as much as I can and Brooke and I enjoy riding with the chapter and making new friends. Other hobbies include: old hot rods, NHRA, and NASCAR. I look forward to riding with you this year!
Vernon EldredRide Captain, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. LADIES OF HARLEY REPORT RIDING SEASON IS ABOUT READY TO SPRING ON US Well ladies (and fellas), I guess it's about time for us to seriously dust off the leathers and spiffy up our bikes. Riding season is about to SPRING on us. Although some of us have been out there in the colder months too. I would like to recommend to any of you who are thinking of riding for the first time this season to connect with Safety Officer, David Olszewski for refresher safety tips. He will be more than happy to help you off to a great start. This goes for all "seasoned" riders too. He has a lot of great ideas, so give him a call. Also, thanks to Jim K. for keeping me informed on the MSF Course. I have sent my application in. I expect to get into a May or June class. Yes, they have filled up that quickly. So, if you are considering taking this course, get your application in NOW. Thanks again Jim. A big "Thank You" is in order for Dick Cadou. He has taken on the awesome task of helping me master the bike. He was very patient and gracious with me, my first time out. Dick, I appreciate your help, more than you know. Thanks!. Keep the dust off your gear, get ready to leather up, zip up, buckle up, and gas up! And let me know how I am doing! Catch ya later, see ya. Patty Toney Ladies of Harley Officer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. SAFETY OFFICER'S REPORT The best way to enhance your safe riding skills is to participate in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course. The MSF offers two classes, a beginner's class and an advanced class. The Motorcycle Rider Course: Riding and Street Skills (MRC:RSS) will teach a beginning rider all of the basic skills required to operate a motorcycle safely, from starting the bike to maneuvering in emergency situations. This class is not only for the beginning rider, as it offers advanced riders a chance to refine their basic riding skills and the opportunity to discuss riding techniques and strategies with other dedicated enthusiasts. The lead instructor for the MRC:RSS class I attended did not own a vehicle with more than two wheels, now that is dedication. A helmet and small 125cc motorcycle will be provided, however, you can ride your own motorcycle. You must have full-fingered gloves, over-the-ankle leather boots with raised heels, a long-sleeve shirt and long pants. This course lasts fifteen hours with approximately seven hours on the bike and eight hours of class time and will be held rain or shine, hot or cold. Ask Vickey about the rain. The registration fee for the MRC:RSS course is $50.00. After you have successfully completed the course, H.O.G. will give you a $50.00 merchandise credit. A word of caution: the instructors are very strict about following all the rules while on the practice range, and rightly so, with a group of inexperienced riders. The MRC:RSS class culminates with a written exam and a road test on the practice range. After successfully completing the course, you will be given a card to take to the driver's license office and they will issue you your motorcycle license. The Experienced Rider Course is nine hours long, splitting the time between the classroom and riding. The registration fee for this class is $30.00, and you must ride your own motorcycle. Classes are offered in the following locations in Georgia: Acworth, Albany, Alpharetta, Americus, Augusta, Clarksville, Columbus, Dalton, Forest Park, Kings Bay, Macon, Savannah, Valdosta, Winder. These classes fill up very quickly, so if you are interested, contact (404) 669-2950 for availability and to start the registration process. If you ride safe, you'll ride longer! The word got out before we meet for the ride that we were going to Louise's in Griffin. We had great riding weather and turn out. Louise's serves great home cooking food. It is a server yourself line, but you have to pay per entree' and vegetables. If you don't make a "hog" of yourself and take one of everything on the steam table, you can have plenty of food for around five bucks.
After lunch, we all rode over to Easyriders in McDonough. "Bud" just had to have a T-shirt at Patty's insistence. We had a great ride, lunch and tire kicking session. Hope you will join us on our next ride and see what you are missing.
Great ride, B.K. It was a lot of fun and I was able to learn more (maybe too much) about club members I've never formally met. Without naming names (they know who they are), there are some very free-spirited and open ladies in the group (LOL). I was still a shade red when I got home. By the way, Jim, it eventually came back to me which one of the levers was the clutch and which was the front brake. It doesn't take too many times of accidentally pulling in the front brake when shifting from 3rd to 4th to suddenly bring it back to memory. Maybe I should run the bike on a stand in my living room like some of those cyclists do during cold weather. You know...to keep me fit...in shape. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Look forward to spending more time with all of you in the future.
Todd, a.k.a. softtaildude
Yes, Todd, I'm glad to know you figured out the clutch/brake thing before there was serious trouble. And as always, when the weather is good, I enjoyed the ride and the company...but sounds to me like I missed something! B.K. and I talked about web pages!
