DIRECTOR'S REPORT

The Head HOG!

I am happy to announce that we have completed a full ride and activities calendar for the year 2000. The overnight trips have been slotted and you should be able to make long term plans. There are a few dates left open that we may announce at a later time. It would be some type of activity or Day Ride. Looking at the calendar we are going in all 5 of the states that border Georgia stretching into Mississippi. We have lots of fun planned, everything from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico. We have several trips in Georgia and to the scenic mountains of Gatlinburg. Make sure you make your reservations early when they are announced in the newsletter. I am looking forward to seeing all of you on the rides.

This past month I visited with the Stone Mountain Chapter at their meeting. I am planning to visit the other metro chapters. I met with the Stone Mountain Director and Activities Officer and we are in agreement in planning an activity or ride together this year.

I regret that one of our officers, Jimmy Stephens, has resigned his position. I have appointed Tom Sigerfoos for the remaining part of the year as Assistant Director. He has accepted and is going to perform his duties as Ride Captain and Assistant Director.

I would also like to introduce a new Ride Captain, Jimmy Lewis. Look for his rides already listed on the calendar.

We are announcing the new MEETING AND RIDE ATTENDANCE CONTEST for Members at the Chapter meeting. Also, at the meetings we are putting together some short programs that will benefit you in riding and enjoying your bike. This was requested by some of the members for certain programs.

Just a reminder that all our motel rooms for the Alabama Rally ride have been taken. I understand that the Travel Lodge in Pelham may still have some room available. Please don't forget to pre-register for the Rally by March 20th to receive the rally perks. Also, if anyone has reservations and cannot make it please don't cancel till you have let us slot those members waiting for rooms.

Be sure to check your calendar. We have made changes on dates for some business and regular meetings due to rides and rallies - March, May, August and September.

Our goal is to have as many rides and activities as possible on different days to provide opportunities for our members. We understand that many have different schedules and hopefully we have something for you. If you have an idea we can add to the calendar that may be unique and enjoyable for the membership please let any officer know.

We are ready to R-U-M-B-L-E.

Director,
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.

LADIES OF HARLEY REPORT

Your LOH Officer

Thanks for the Memories...

Starting the month of April we will be adding a new feature to the newsletter. It will be called "Member Memories". We would like to invite chapter members to share and write a small article about a memorable motorcycle trip or event you have been on in the past. You can even include a photo of yourself and your bike. A new article will be chosen each month to be published in the newsletter this year.

Tom and I wrote an article about our Canada trip last year and several members remarked on how much they liked reading about it. I feel this is a great way for us all to get to know each other better and discover how much more we all have in common in addition to riding.

I know a lot of you have been riding for years, and have a bunch of neat stories we all would love to read about. So get out that pen and paper or sit down at the computer and get those creative juices going. Let's have fun with this! Who's gotta story?

Please send your articles to me (Tommye) via email at: rkmama@aol.com or you can mail it in or hand them into Rene, at the shop the Monday before each chapter meeting.

It's the Noughties (00's) and
The Ladies Want To Take Us To Lunch

On Saturday, April 22nd, the Ladies of Harley are sponsoring a chapter ride to LaPrade's on beautiful Lake Burton, GA right off GA Hwy 197. Our route will take us through Cleveland and Clarkesville and then up GA 197, a beautifully scenic road of continuous curves along the Soque River to the Lake Burton area. After lunch we will follow 197 to US 76 W. to GA 75 S. ending the ride in Helen, GA.

This ride is a chapter favorite so join us for a fantastic ride, great food, and "biker fellowship". This is one you won't want to miss for sure. LaPrade's is a family style place featuring all you can eat for $10.95 (Saturday price), and it is well worth it.

Date: Saturday, April 22nd
Meeting Time/Location: 10:00 AM, JC Penney @ Perimeter Mall
Route coverage and safety briefing. Arrive with a full tank of gas--there is an Exxon station right across the street from JC Penney.
Departure: 10:30 AM **a group will meet at H-D of Atlanta and ride to Perimeter Mall.
Ride Leader: Tommye Sigerfoos, (770) 971-4467

LOH Saddle'n Paddle Ride

When: June 23-25th (Friday-Sunday)
Where: Nantahala, River Area-Bryson City, NC

This ride is a 2 nighter, featuring a river rafting trip on Saturday. It may seem a bit early, but we're publicizing this now so folks can make plans and arrange things. Also all money for the river trip will have to be turned in by May 24th, so we need to get a jump on things. This is a good trip for those without rafting experience as the river is gentle, but still fun. Good too, for kids, as there is only a minimum body weight of 60 lbs requirement i.e., age does not matter.

We will try to arrange for accomodations again at the Sleep Inn in Bryson City which is only a year or two old and is really nice. For those who might want to ride up and back, but not river raft, Cherokee, NC is only I I miles further on and there is also horseback riding available in the area as well. A big loop ride (about 80 miles) around the Cheoah Dam and Fontana Lake will follow the raft trip so Saturday. It will be a full day!! Our trip home will take us out across the Cherahola, Skyway which is one fantastic ride!!!! Hotel cost is around $68.00 per night and the river raft trip is about $37.00 per person.

Make plans to join us for this "mini vacation" in scenic North Carolina. Promotional stuff will be in our H.O.G. case at the shop, so check it out!!

Remember..."The more you know the better it gets".

SAFETY OFFICER'S REPORT

The Safety HOG!

Hello Atlanta-Harley Davidson Owners Group. I hope everyone was able to take advantage of our mild February weather and was able to spin around the block on that Harley. We have a lot of group chapter rides this year and a safe ride is a good ride. In group rides every one needs to be informed of the actions of all the other riders in the group. For this reason we have rules for riders as well as group hand signals. I am including these in this news letter. If we follow these rules and signals we should have a safer and more informed group which should help to make our ride more organized and enjoyable. Remember when riding in a group, the group is only as safe as the least safe rider. (See March HOGWASH for above mentioned rules and signals.)

Ride your Harley 'SAFELY' and you will ride your Harley "LONGER"!

If you are interested in riding with us please call (770) 949-9691 or E-mail me at mightymikev@mindspring.com. We can work out a meeting place on I-75 south of Atlanta and ride together. For those of you with the urge to ride later in the week, Jimmy Lewis will be leading a group down on March 9th. Give him a call at (770) 493-4010 or E-mail at pj.hideaway@mindspring.com. If you are going a different day call me or Email me, leave your name, number and what day you are leaving. I will try to put you in touch with someone else going the same day, if I can. If you or pulling you bike and not riding it, your still very welcome with us. See you on the road.

Chapter Ride/Attendance Contest

This year we are going to have a contest as an incentive to ride and come to our monthly meetings. The person who attends the most rides and the person who attends the most meetings will be rewarded for their participation. There will be a 2nd place prize give for the most rides, In the event of a tie, there will be a drawing. So don't stay home, come on out and have a good time. This club belongs to you, so use it, enjoy it, have some fun and if your lucky, you just might win. The officers are-not eligible to win. The contest will start the first of March and end before our November meeting. I will have more information, including the prizes in next month's HOGWASH.

By the way, if this is your first group ride; I will see to it that you are comfortable with the experience. Meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 8:45 AM and leave at 9:15 AM. Please arrive with a full tank of gas. Looking forward to seeing you! This will be an all day ride.
